Acidogenesis in relation to fluoride resistance of Streptococcus mutans
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1991The velocity of acid production (Vap) of Streptococcus mutans C180‐2 and of 2 fluoride‐resistant mutant strains S. mutans C180‐2FR and S. mutans C180‐2MFR was examined in vitro at pH values between 7.0 and 4.5. The Vap of the fluoride‐resistant mutants was lower than the Vap of the parent strain at pH ≥6.0.

The Authors consider the inhibition of acidogenesis in the dental plaque by topical application of fluoride. After an examination of the actions of fluoride on the bacterial component of dental plaque, the Authors come to the conclusion that inhibition of acidogenesis is one of the possible anticaries mechanism of topical fluoride.

Continuous lactose fermentation by Clostridium acetobutylicum – Assessment of acidogenesis kinetics
Bioresource Technology, 2011An assessment of the growth kinetics of acidogenic cells of Clostridium acetobutylicum DSM 792 is reported in the paper. Tests were carried out in a continuous stirred tank reactor under controlled conditions adopting a complex medium supplemented with lactose as carbon source to mimic cheese whey.

Anaerobic fermentation of whey : acidogenesis
2010Based on the initial exploratory results of single-phase (acidogenesis and methanogenesis takes place in one vessel) whey biomethanation studies, a two-phase (acidogenesis and methanogenesis takes place in two separated serial vessels) biomethanation process was found to be more suitable for dealing with the current whey utilisation and/or disposal ...

Maximization of acetic acid production in partial acidogenesis of swine wastewater
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2001AbstractSwine wastewater was biologically treated to produce short‐chain volatile organic acids (VOAs) in laboratory‐scale continuously stirred tank reactors. The maximum production rates of acetic and butyric acids associated with simultaneous changes in pH and hydraulic retention time (HRT) were investigated, in which the degree of acidification of ...

Maximization of volatile fatty acids production from alginate in acidogenesis
Bioresource Technology, 2013In this study, the response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to determine the optimum fermentative condition of alginate with the respect to the simultaneous effects of alginate concentration and initial pH to maximize the production of total volatile fatty acids (TVFAs) and alcohols.

Effect of xylitol and sorbitol on plaque acidogenesis.
Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 2009To evaluate the in vivo potential of xylitol to reduce plaque acidogenicity in comparison to sorbitol. After completing a questionnaire on general health, smoking, diet, and oral hygiene habits, 61 dentate adults refrained from oral hygiene for 3 days before the clinical baseline examination, which included decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT ...

Anaerobic acidogenesis of primary sludge: The role of solids retention time
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1994AbstractThis research investigates the effect of solids retention time (SRT) on the acid‐phase anaerobic digestion of primary sludge. A series of experiments were conducted using two continuous‐flow 3‐L units with the following configuration: a completely mixed reactor (CMR) with clarifier and solids recycle and an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB)

Effect of Alkali Metal Cation on the Anaerobic Hydrolysis and Acidogenesis of Vegetable Waste
Environmental Technology, 2006Five batch testing scenarios were designed to evaluate the effects of alkali metal cations on anaerobic hydrolysis and acidogenesis. These scenarios were A (c=0 g l(-1)), B (cNa+=25 g l(-1)), C (cNa+=50 g l(-1)), D (cK+=25 g l(-1)), and E (cK+=50 g l(-1), pH 7.0).
