Optimizing volatile fatty acid production in partial acidogenesis of swine wastewater
This research has been conducted based on the fact that acetic and butyric acids are favorable substrates for methanogens, and that a low level of propionic acid production during acidogenesis minimizes the inhibition effect on methanogenic growth.

Conversion of food waste into hydrogen by thermophilic acidogenesis
Biodegradation, 2005Conversion of food waste into hydrogen by thermophilic acidogenesis was investigated as a function of organic loading rate (OLR), hydraulic retention time (HRT) and pH in a continuous stirred tank reactor. In order to identify hydrogen-producing microorganisms, denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR ...

Glucose-stimulated acidogenesis by Streptomyces peucetius
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1987Cultures of Streptomyces peucetius often were observed to divert spontaneously from the production of anthracycline antibiotics to the excretion of acidic metabolites, whether grown in a defined medium or a nutrient-rich medium. The predominant excreted acidic metabolites were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography to be pyruvate and 2 ...

Acidogenesis by Oral Streptococci at Different pH Values
Caries Research, 2009Streptococcus mutans is known to be one of the most cariogenic oral microorganisms. Recently, organisms classified as S. mutans have been shown to be genotypically heterogeneous and to form at least six separate species. In this study, differences in acid production between the mutans streptococci and Streptococcus sanguis were investigated at pH ...

Enhancement of sludge granulation in hydrolytic acidogenesis by denitrification
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2015Acidogenesis is an important pretreatment process for various industrial wastewater treatments. Granular sludge is an efficient form of a microbial community in anaerobic methanogenic reactors, such as upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB), but it is hard to develop in the acidogenic process due to the short hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of ...

Characterisation of high-rate anaerobic acidogenesis [PDF]
Detailed in-depth knowledge of acidogenesis is important for the development of robust and optimised anaerobic digestion processes, and also to selectively produce certain acids or other by-products such as hydrogen during the conversions. Although the complete anaerobic digestion process has been studied for a long time, the detailed understanding of ...

Acidogenesis in the two‐phase anaerobic process
Journal of Environmental Science and Health . Part A: Environmental Science and Engineering, 1985Abstract A two‐phase anaerobic digestion system with a completely mixed acid reactor was studied using a 2 percent synthetic glucose substrate. The steady‐state performance of the acid phase was studied at pH 4.3 and a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 4.5 hours for 117 days.

Continuous lactose fermentation by Clostridium acetobutylicum – Assessment of acidogenesis kinetics
Bioresource Technology, 2011An assessment of the growth kinetics of acidogenic cells of Clostridium acetobutylicum DSM 792 is reported in the paper. Tests were carried out in a continuous stirred tank reactor under controlled conditions adopting a complex medium supplemented with lactose as carbon source to mimic cheese whey.

Acidogenesis in relation to fluoride resistance of Streptococcus mutans
Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1991The velocity of acid production (Vap) of Streptococcus mutans C180‐2 and of 2 fluoride‐resistant mutant strains S. mutans C180‐2FR and S. mutans C180‐2MFR was examined in vitro at pH values between 7.0 and 4.5. The Vap of the fluoride‐resistant mutants was lower than the Vap of the parent strain at pH ≥6.0.
