In France, the main farmed sturgeon species are the Siberian (A. baerii) and Russian (A.gueldenstaedtii) sturgeon. Breeding programs for conservation or genetic improvement require accurate pedigree information, which can be achieved by rearing separately fish from different families or, if they are all mixed, using genotyping of fish and their parents.
