Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Acquired Resistance to Antituberculosis Drugs in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, 2000–2015
Among tuberculosis (TB) patients, acquired resistance to anti-TB drugs represents a failure in the treatment pathway. To improve diagnosis and care for patients with drug-resistant TB, we examined the epidemiology and risk factors associated with ...

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Genetics of fungal resistance to systemic fungicides [PDF]
Since the introduction of the systemic fungicides, fungicide resistance has become a serious problem in plant disease control. This study was carried out in order to contribute to the knowledge about the genetics of fungal resistance to fungicides both ...

Acquired Resistance of Treponema pallidum to Penicillin
SummaryThe minimal curative dose of a commercial penicillin in aqueous solution by intramuscular injection 3 times a day for 10 doses in succession was apparently slightly more than 1000 units per kg (totalling 10,000 units) and probably somewhat less than 5000 units per dose (totalling 50,000 units) in the treatment of acute testicular syphilis of ...

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Increasing Resistance of Nosocomial and Community-Acquired Escherichia coli in Clinical Samples from Hospitals and Clinics in Sana’a City [PDF]
Antimicrobial resistance in Escherichia coli presents a global challenge associated with nosocomial infections and increased mortality rates. Understanding resistance profiles is crucial for guiding treatment strategies and ensuring effective antibiotic ...
