Acriflavine-binding Capacity Controlled by the acrA Gene of Escherichia coli [PDF]
The acrA mutation in Escherichia coli led to a substantial increase of the acriflavine-binding capacity of the cell, whereas the related mutations acrB (gyrB) and arcC did not. Metal ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Al3+ effectively released the bound acriflavine, in proportion to their ionic strengths.

Non-Uniform Concentric Rings Design for Ultra-Wideband Arrays
This paper presents the design of aperiodic concentric ring arrays for ultra-wide bandwidths (UW-ACRA). This design of ultra-wideband arrays considers the synthesis of concentric rings in two cases: 1) non-uniform spacing between rings with non-uniform ...

acrA-PPMO confers hypersensitivity to several antibiotics in a sequence-specific manner. [PDF]
(A) Sample antibiotic dose-response curves of E. coli in the absence of acrA-PPMO (black lines), in the presence of 10 μM acrA-PPMO (blue lines), and E. coli with acrA deletion (cyan lines).

Structure and Dynamics of AcrA, a Periplasmic Component of a Multidrug Efflux Pump [PDF]
AcrA is the periplasmic component of an efflux system AcrA-AcrB-TolC, which can expel different classes of antibiotics. AcrB is the inner membrane (IM) pump that utilizes proton-motive force for the active transport, TolC is the outer membrane (OM ...

Hybrid biological reactor systems: an experimental study [PDF]
Experiments were performed on a laboratory model of a hybrid bioreactor consisting of an aeration tank to which support media were added to simulate both suspended and attached growth reactors, a secondary clarifier and a recycling system. The system was

Sensitivity of Escherichia coli acrA Mutants to Psoralen plus Near-Ultraviolet Radiation [PDF]
The sensitivity to psoralen plus near-ultraviolet radiation (PUVA) was compared in a pair of E. coli strains differing at the acrA locus. Survival was determined for both bacteria and phage λ. AcrA mutant cells were 40 times more sensitive than wild type
