Diagnostic Significance of Metagenomic Next‐Generation Sequencing in Immunocompromised Patients With Suspected Pulmonary Infection

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 175, Issue 1, Page 112-122, May 2025.
Our study evaluates the diagnostic value of metagenomic next‐generation sequencing (mNGS) in immunocompromised patients with suspected pulmonary infections. mNGS showed superior sensitivity over conventional methods, especially in identifying mixed infections in organ transplant recipients and patients with low lymphocyte counts.

Prospective Estimation of the Prevalence of Thromboembolism in Dogs With Inflammatory Protein‐Losing Enteropathy

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Inflammatory protein‐losing enteropathy (iPLE) is thought to be associated with a hypercoagulable state and may predispose dogs to thromboembolism (TE). However, little information is available regarding the prevalence of TE in dogs with iPLE.

Diagnostic Value of Echocardiography in Cats With and Without Ultrasonographic Evidence of Renal Infarction

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Revisiting the association between heart disease and renal infarction (RI) in cats is relevant to determine whether those with RI should undergo echocardiographic screening. Objective Compare the relative frequency of echocardiographically detectable heart disease and other comorbidities in cats with and without ultrasonographic ...

What influences interruption of continuous renal replacement therapy in intensive care unit patients: A review with meta‐analysis on outcome variables

open access: yesNursing in Critical Care, Volume 30, Issue 3, May 2025.
Abstract Background Evidence suggests that 8%–10% of ICU patients receive renal replacement therapy. However, there is a high rate of unplanned CRRT interruption, ranging between 17% and 74%. Studies on unplanned interruption of CRRT mainly focused on the retrospective investigation of related risk factors and conclusions have been diverse.

Use of Fluid Gelatin in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Undergoing Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic: A Prospective, Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1340-1348, May 2025.
The 96 patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the Surgiflo Hemostatic Matrix (SHM) group and the non‐SHM group. The use of fluid gelatin effectively reduces intraoperative and postoperative bleeding without leading to additional complications.

Freeze‐dried plasma: Hemostasis and biophysical analyses for damage control resuscitation

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 65, Issue S1, Page S250-S264, May 2025.
Abstract Background Effective hemorrhage protocols prioritize immediate hemostatic resuscitation to manage hemorrhagic shock. Prehospital resuscitation using blood products, such as whole blood or alternatively dried plasma in its absence, has the potential to improve outcomes in hemorrhagic shock patients.

Assessing direct transfusion feasibility with syringe‐based collection of whole blood from universal donors

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 65, Issue S1, Page S63-S67, May 2025.
Abstract Background The anticipated multidomain operations of future battlefields necessitates minimalistic medical strategies for treatment of combat wounded. Direct transfusion, involving the administration of blood directly from a donor to a recipient, may be a solution for treating hemorrhagic shock patients in an austere environment where the ...
