Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Specific integrin alpha and beta chain phosphorylations regulate LFA-1 activation through affinity-dependent and -independent mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Integrins are adhesion receptors that are crucial to the functions of multicellular organisms. Integrin-mediated adhesion is a complex process that involves both affinity regulation and cytoskeletal coupling, but the molecular mechanisms behind this ...

Catalytic Asymmetric Synthesis of gem‐Dicyano‐Spirocyclopropyl Oxindoles by N‐9‐Anth‐PyBidine‐Co(OAc)2: Advantage of Three‐Component Coupling Approach

open access: yesChemistryEurope
A chiral N‐9‐Anth‐PyBidine‐Co(OAc)2 complex catalyzed the kinetically controlled asymmetric Michael/alkylation reaction of 3‐chlorooxindoles with alkylidenemalononitriles to give gem‐dicyano‐spirocyclopropyl oxindoles in a highly diastereo‐ and ...

Carbon Materials Based on Sulfur-containing Petroleum Coke and Their Application as Anode Materials for Bunsen Reaction Products

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao, 2022
Four kinds of petroleum coke with different sulfur content were used as raw materials to prepare sulfur and nitrogen co-doped carbon materials by potassium hydroxide activation.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Regulation of the muscle activation during drop landing and jump under various height

open access: yes, 2011
Pre-activation before ground impact can play an important roles during drop jumps(DJ). The purpose of this study was to examine the regulation of triceps surae muscle activation during DJs.

Active Matter [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal E, 2013
The study of systems with sustained energy uptake and dissipation at the scale of the constituent particles is an area of central interest in nonequilibrium statistical physics. Identifying such systems as a distinct category -- Active Matter -- unifies our understanding of autonomous collective move- ment in the living world and in some surprising ...

Non-coding microRNAs for cardiac regeneration: Exploring novel alternatives to induce heart healing

open access: yesNon-coding RNA Research, 2017
In recent years, different studies have revealed that adult mammalian cardiomyocytes have the capacity to self-renew under homeostatic conditions and after myocardial injury.
