Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

Output feedback stabilization of linear systems with actuator saturation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005
The paper presents a method for designing output feedback laws that stabilize a linear system subject to actuator saturation with a large domain of attraction. This method applies to general linear systems including strictly unstable ones, and is presented in both continuous-time and discrete-time setting.

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Control for Flight Systems with Input Saturation and Model Mismatch

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2013
A novel scheme for fault-tolerant control is proposed in this paper, in which model reference adaptive control method is incorporated with control allocation to cope with simultaneous actuator failures, input saturation, and model mismatch in the flight ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Micro-strip ferromagnetic resonance study of strain-induced anisotropy in amorphous FeCuNbSiB film on flexible substrate

open access: yes, 2014
The magnetic anisotropy of a FeCuNbSiB (Finemet) film deposited on Kapton has been studied by micro-strip ferromagnetic resonance technique. We have shown that the flexibility of the substrate allows a good transmission of elastic strains generated by a ...
