Issues of intensive care and liver transplantation tactics in fulminant liver failure

open access: yesВестник медицинского института «Реавиз»: Реабилитация, врач и здоровье, 2023
Fulminant liver failure is usually characterized as severe acute liver injury with encephalopathy and synthetic dysfunction (international normalized ratio [INR] ≥1.5) in a patient without cirrhosis or previous liver disease.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Immune mediated liver failure [PDF]

open access: yes
Liver failure is a clinical syndrome of various etiologies, manifesting as jaundice, encephalopathy, coagulopathy and circulatory dysfunction, which result in subsequent multiorgan failure.

A multicenter retrospective cohort analysis of therapeutic hypothermia in acute liver failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cerebral edema is a severe and life-threatening complication in acute liver failure (ALF). Concerns exist that therapeutic hypothermia (TH) may increase the risk of infection, worsen coagulopathy and inhibit hepatic regeneration.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Orthotopic liver transplantation for fulminant and subacute hepatic failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Fulminant and subacute hepatitis are conditions characterized by rapid liver failure, which can lead to death in 80 to more than 95% of the cases with medical supportive care only.

A clinicopathological study of human liver allograft recipients harboring preformed IgG lymphocytotoxic antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Twenty‐six adult patients with preformed IgG donor lymphocytotoxic antibodies received primary liver allografts under FK 506 immunosuppression. The effect of the crossmatch‐positive state on early graft function and on the immunopathological and ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Systematic review of the global epidemiology of viral-induced acute liver failure

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2020
Objectives The aetiology and burden of viral-induced acute liver failure remains unclear globally. It is important to understand the epidemiology of viral-induced ALF to plan for clinical case management and case prevention.Participants This systematic ...

Prognostic markers in acute liver failure - Alpha feto protein

open access: yesArchives of Medicine and Health Sciences, 2021
Background and Aim: Acute liver failure is associated with high mortality and only about 40% patients survive without liver transplantation. The available prognostic models failed to predict the outcome correctly.
