The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Randomized trial of polychromatic blue-enriched light for circadian phase shifting, melatonin suppression, and alerting responses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Wavelength comparisons have indicated that circadian phase-shifting and enhancement of subjective and EEG-correlates of alertness have a higher sensitivity to short wavelength visible light.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Inhibition of the activity of pro-inflammatory secretory phospholipase A2 by acute phase proteins

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1996
Pro-Inflammatory non-pancreatic phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) is markedly over-expressed in acute systemic and chronic local inflammatory processes. Since in acute phase reaction sPLA2 is often over-expressed simultaneously with acute phase proteins (APP), it

Complex training: The effect of exercise selection and training status on postactivation potentiation in rugby league players [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study compared the postactivation potentiation (PAP) response of the hex bar deadlift (HBD) and back squat (BS) exercises. The PAP response between different levels of athletes was also compared.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Hepatitis C virus core antigen assay: can we think beyond convention in resource limited settings?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2013
Hepatitis C virus infects over 15 million patients from India and 2.86 million from Brazil. Detection of anti-hepatitis C virus antibodies has limited sensitivity during acute phase: the pre-seroconversion window period.

Effects of 48-hour feed deprivation on acute-phase response in horses

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2022
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of feed restriction on acute-phase response in horses. Twenty horses were deprived of food for 48 h and others 12 animals (control) had free access to water and hay.

The hamster (mesocricetus auratus) as experimental model in chagas' disease: parasitological and histopathological studies in acute and chronic phases of Trypanosoma cruzi infection

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 1994
This research characterizes the acute and chronic phases of Chagas ' disease in hamster through parasitological and histopathological studies.

Acute phase reaction to gadolinium-DTPA in dialysis patients [PDF]

open access: yesNephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 2008
Several late sequelae of the administration of gadolinium (Gd)-containing MRI contrast agents have been described in patients with advanced renal failure. In an observational series, we found a remarkable frequency of peracute reactions after administration of Gd-DTPA used for cardiovascular evaluation before renal transplantation. In a 26-month ...
