Evaluation of C-reactive protein (CRP) plasma concentration among women during labour and in early puerperium

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2018
Objectives: Calculation and analysis of CRP plasma concentration among women during labour and in the second day of puerperium in various clinical situations Material and methods: 317 participants about estimated due date (EDD) were included to the ...

How important is the acute phase in HIV epidemiology? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
At present, the best hope for eliminating HIV transmission and bringing the epidemic of HIV to an end lies in the use of anti-retroviral therapy for prevention, a strategy referred to variously as Test and Treat (T&T), Treatment as Prevention (TasP) or Treatment centred Prevention (TcP).

A case report of vanishing bile duct syndrome after exposure to pexidartinib (PLX3397) and paclitaxel. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pexidartinib (PLX3397) is a small molecule tyrosine kinase and colony-stimulating factor-1 inhibitor with FDA breakthrough therapy designation for tenosynovial giant-cell tumor, and currently under study in several other tumor types, including breast ...

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

Transcriptome Analysis of Acute Phase Liver Graft Injury in Liver Transplantation

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2018
Background: Liver transplantation remains the treatment of choice for a selected group of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. However, the long-term benefit is greatly hampered by post-transplant HCC recurrence.

Potential of acute phase proteins as predictor of postpartum uterine infections during transition period and its regulatory mechanism in dairy cattle [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2016
Among the various systemic reactions against infection or injury, the acute phase response is the cascade of reaction and mostly coordinated by cytokines-mediated acute phase proteins (APPs) production.

Liquid crystal phases with unusual structures and physical properties formed by acute-angle bent-core molecules [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Liquid crystals formed by acute-angle bent-core (ABC) molecules with a 1,7 naphthalene central core show an intriguing phase behavior with the nematic phase accompanied by poorly understood additional phases. In this work, we characterize the physical properties of an ABC material, such as birefringence, dielectric permittivities, elastic constants ...

Strain- and dose-dependent reduction of Toxoplasma gondii burden in pigs is associated with interferon-gamma production by CD8+ lymphocytes in a heterologous challenge model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Toxoplasma gondii is a worldwide prevalent parasite of humans and animals. The global infection burden exceeds yearly one million disability-adjusted life years (DALY's) in infected individuals. Therefore, effective preventive measures should be taken to

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.
