Defining the Structure and Function of Acyl-Homoserine Lactone Autoinducers [PDF]
Quorum sensing plays a central role in regulating many community-derived symbiotic and pathogenic relationships of bacteria, and as such has attracted much attention in recent years. Acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) are important signaling molecules in the quorum sensing gene-regulatory processes found in numerous gram-negative species of bacteria that ...

Organic nanoparticles (ONPs) derived from biopolymers provide sustainable antimicrobial platforms with tunable physicochemical properties. By enabling controlled delivery of bioactive compounds, ONPs disrupt microbial membranes, induce oxidative stress, and inhibit quorum sensing.

X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1s) is a critical determinant of Pseudomonas aeruginosa homoserine lactone-mediated apoptosis. [PDF]
Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections are associated with high mortality rates and occur in diverse conditions including pneumonias, cystic fibrosis and neutropenia.

Directed evolution of Vibrio fischeri LuxR for increased sensitivity to a broad spectrum of acyl-homoserine lactones [PDF]
LuxR-type transcriptional regulators play key roles in quorum-sensing systems that employ acyl-homoserine lactones (acyl-HSLs) as signal molecules.

Rice and bean AHL-mimic quorum-sensing signals specifically interfere with the capacity to form biofilms by plant-associated bacteria [PDF]
Many bacteria regulate their gene expression in response to changes in their population density in a process called quorum sensing (QS), which involves communication between cells mediated by small diffusible signal molecules termed autoinducers.

In this cultivation‐based study, two novel moderately thermophilic Nitrospira enrichments were obtained from the geothermal field Las Máquinas in the Neuquén Province, Argentina. Both nitrite oxidizers, belonging to lineage V or the novel taxonomic lineage VIII, contain quorum‐sensing genes and a high genome GC content of 60.6% and 69.4%.

Regulation of acylated homoserine lactones (AHLs) in beef by spice marination [PDF]
Quorum sensing (QS) is a signaling mechanism used by bacteria to communicate each other through the release of auto-inducing signaling molecules. Despite the fact that bacteria regulate its phenotypes by QS mechanism, their potential role in meat spoilage is not yet elucidated.

Social interactions in the Burkholderia cepacia complex : biofilms and quorum sensing [PDF]
Burkholderia cepacia complex bacteria are opportunistic pathogens that cause respiratory tract infections in susceptible patients, mainly people with cystic fibrosis. There is convincing evidence that B.

This review elucidates the molecular mechanisms of algicidal bacteria, highlighting critical behaviours like chemotaxis, quorum sensing and extracellular vesicle release. It details how these actions disrupt algal cellular integrity, photosynthesis and calcium homeostasis, providing a theoretical foundation for controlling harmful algal blooms ...
