Intratumoral delivery of FLT3L with CXCR3/CCR5 ligands promotes XCR1+ cDC1 infiltration and activates anti-tumor immunity

open access: yesNature Communications
Tumor infiltration by XCR1⁺ conventional dendritic cells (cDC1) correlates strongly with favorable prognosis and improved responses to immunotherapy. Yet, tumor-driven immunosuppressive programs restrict efficient cDC1 recruitment, highlighting the need ...

HBV-Specific Adaptive Immunity

open access: yesViruses, 2009
The successful control of HBV infection requires an efficient expansion of distinct elements of the adaptive immune system (B cells, helper and cytotoxic T cells) that, due to the hepatotropic nature of HBV, need to operate in the liver parenchyma.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Obesity and disease severity magnify disturbed microbiome-immune interactions in asthma patients

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Here, the authors characterize immunological and microbiome alterations in a cohort of obese asthmatics, finding that disease severity negatively correlates with fecal abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila, and show in a mouse model that administration of

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Trained Immunity and its Role in Health and Diseases: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Biochemistry
The term immunity mostly refers to adaptive immunity, even though innate immunity also plays a crucial role. Immunological memory is the key feature distinguishing adaptive immunity from innate immunity.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

CMTM6 suppresses cell-surface expression of death receptor FAS in mice but not in humans

open access: yesEMBO Reports
The transmembrane protein CMTM6 promotes plasma membrane expression of the immune checkpoint protein PD-L1, a key suppressor of anti-tumor immunity. Targeting CMTM6 has been proposed as a strategy to enhance tumor cell killing by reducing PD-L1 surface ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Aberrant adaptive immune response underlies genetic susceptibility to tuberculosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) remains a major threat worldwide, although only a fraction of infected individuals develops tuberculosis (TB). TB susceptibility is shaped by multiple genetic factors, and we performed comparative immunological analysis ...
