An adaptive large neighborhood search algorithm for the carrier-vehicle traveling salesman problem

open access: yes, 2020

A Tabu Search Heuristic Procedure for the Capacitated Facility Location Problem [PDF]

open access: yes
A tabu search heuristic procedure for the capacitated facility location problem is developed, implemented and computationally tested. The heuristic procedure uses both short term and long term memories to perform the main search process as well as the ...

Low‐Pressure Plasma‐Based Wrinkling of PDMS and Machine Learning‐Driven Property Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Wrinkled surfaces are well‐suited for controlled surface deformations in the µm range. The key challenge is the relation between the resulting wrinkle features and the necessary process conditions. Machine learning techniques have solved the prediction and inverse design problems for various preparation conditions, opening a precisely controlled ...

An adaptive large neighborhood search algorithm for selective and periodic inventory routing problem

open access: yes, 2020
In this thesis we develop the first metaheuristic method for a selective and periodic inventory routing problem (SPIRP) that arises in reverse logistics. The problem concerns a biodiesel production company collecting used vegetable oil from restaurants and hotels which are the source nodes using and wasting vegetable oil in considerable amounts.

Programmable Variable‐Stiffness Multilayer Elastomer Composites With High‐Aspect‐Ratio Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Inclusions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
High‐aspect‐ratio low‐melting‐point alloy inclusions are embedded within multilayer silicone laminates to create thermally programmable stiffness. Sequential activation of alloy‐rich layers produces four distinct mechanical states and reconfigures tendon‐driven actuator trajectories under the same load.

Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...
