Enhanced Detection of Mitochondrial Heteroplasmy and DNA Hypomethylation in Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Using a Novel Adaptive Sampling Protocol

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Objective: Mitochondria drive cellular energy production and regulate key biological processes. High levels of heteroplasmic in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variants can cause mitochondrial dysfunction and clinical symptoms.

Adaptive visual sampling

open access: yes, 2010
PhDVarious visual tasks may be analysed in the context of sampling from the visual field. In visual psychophysics, human visual sampling strategies have often been shown at a high-level to be driven by various information and resource related factors ...

A Subband Adaptive Equalization Structure

open access: yes, 1999
The potential presence of fractional delays, non-minimum phase parts, and a colouring of the channel output can require adaptive equalizers to adapt very long impulse responses.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Aero-Structural Design Optimization of a Transonic Fan Rotor Using an Adaptive POD-Based Hybrid Surrogate Model

open access: yesAerospace
In this study, an optimization framework for turbomachinery blades using a hybrid surrogate model assisted by proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is introduced and then applied to the aero-structural multidisciplinary design optimization of a transonic

Effectiveness of Adaptive Window Scans in Reducing Near-Field Measurement Time [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science
The widespread application of near-field scanning is limited by its long measurement time. This article proposes a window-scanning-based automated adaptive sampling approach to address this issue.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Adaptive Gibbs samplers and related MCMC methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We consider various versions of adaptive Gibbs and Metropolis- within-Gibbs samplers, which update their selection probabilities (and perhaps also their proposal distributions) on the y during a run, by learning as they go in an attempt to optimise ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Gibbs sampling, adaptive rejection sampling and robustness to prior specification for a mixed linear model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Markov chain Monte-Carlo methods are increasingly being applied to make inferences about the marginal posterior distributions of parameters in quantitative genetic models.
