Immunosuppression via adenosine receptor activation by adenosine monophosphate released from apoptotic cells

open access: yeseLife, 2014
Apoptosis is coupled with recruitment of macrophages for engulfment of dead cells, and with compensatory proliferation of neighboring cells. Yet, this death process is silent, and it does not cause inflammation.

Liver hydrolysate improves depressive-like behavior in olfactory bulbectomized mice: Involvement of hippocampal neurogenesis through the AMPK/BDNF/CREB pathway

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2020
Recently, we has reported that AMPK activator has antidepressant effect. Previous our study suggested that liver hydrolysate (LH) activated adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in periphery.

Antidepressant effect of electroacupuncture regulates signal targeting in the brain and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2016
Electroacupuncture improves depressive behavior faster and with fewer adverse effects than antidepressant medication. However, the antidepressant mechanism of electroacupuncture remains poorly understood.

Increased oxidative stress caused by impaired mitophagy aggravated liver ischemia and reperfusion injury in diabetic mice

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, 2023
Aims/Introduction Emerging evidence has suggested the detrimental role of oxidative stress in aggravating ischemia and reperfusion (IR) injury in diabetic livers. Interplay between oxidative stress and mitophagy has been shown.

Baicalin inhibited PANX-1/P2Y6 signaling pathway activation in porcine aortic vascular endothelial cells infected by Glaesserella parasuis

open access: yesHeliyon
Glaesserella parasuis can induce endothelial barrier damage in piglets, although the mechanism by which this pathogen triggers inflammatory damage remains unclear. Baicalin possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities.

Adenosine-Metabolizing Enzymes, Adenosine Kinase and Adenosine Deaminase, in Cancer

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
The immunosuppressive effect of adenosine in the microenvironment of a tumor is well established. Presently, researchers are developing approaches in immune therapy that target inhibition of adenosine or its signaling such as CD39 or CD73 inhibiting ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
