Current status of human adenovirus infection in China

open access: yesWorld Journal of Pediatrics, 2022
Abstract Background Outbreaks of severe, acute hepatitis among children have recently attracted global attention. The pathogen causing the outbreak remains unknown, but there is growing evidence that it may be associated with human adenovirus (HAdV). Data sources A review of

Association of Adenovirus Infection with Human Obesity [PDF]

open access: yesObesity Research, 1997
AbstractDHURANDHAR, NIKHIL V, PUSHPA R KULKARNI, SHARAD M AJINKYA, ABHAYA A SHERIKAR, RICHARD L ATKINSON. Association of adenovirus infection with human obesity. We previously reported that chickens infected with the avian adenovirus SMAM‐1 developed a unique syndrome characterized by excessive intra‐abdominal fat deposition accompanied by paradoxically

Antibody to human adenovirus early antigens during acute adenovirus infections [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1981
The antibody (Ab) response to human adenovirus (AV) early antigens (EA) in acute AV infections was studied by the immunoperoxidase antibody technique for determining virus-specific immunoglobulin G (IPA-IgG). AV-EA-Ab appeared about 5 days after the onset of clinical symptoms, reached a peak 15 to 30 days later, and declined in titer after a few months.

Humanized Mice Reproduce Acute and Persistent Human Adenovirus Infection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 2016
Severe human adenovirus (HAdV) infections are an increasing threat for immunosuppressed individuals, particularly those who have received stem cell transplants. It has been previously hypothesized that severe infections might be due to reactivation of a persistent infection, but this hypothesis has been difficult to test owing to the lack of a ...

Effect of Adenovirus Infection on Expression of Human Histone Genes [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1984
The influence of adenovirus type 2 infection of HeLa cells upon expression of human histone genes was examined as a function of the period of infection. Histone RNA synthesis was assayed after run-off transcription in nuclei isolated from mock-infected cells and after various periods of adenovirus infection.

A Report of Adult Human Adenovirus Infections in a Tertiary Hospital [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Forum Infectious Diseases, 2017
AbstractWe describe a review of human adenovirus (HAdV) infections occurring among adults in a tertiary hospital in Singapore from February to May 2013. A similar increase in cases was observed among children and military personnel during the same time period. The majority of isolates were identified as HAdV-7, likely an emerging pathogen in Asia.

Productive infection of cultured human lymphoid cells by adenovirus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1987
We investigated infection of cultures from established human B- and T-cell lines by adenoviruses. Infection by adenovirus type 2 or 5 was productive by the criteria of viral DNA replication, RNA synthesis, immunofluorescent staining of viral proteins, and assembly of biologically active virions.

Human Adenovirus Infection in Kawasaki Disease: A Confounding Bystander? [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2012
Human adenovirus (HAdV) infection mimics Kawasaki disease (KD) but can also be detected in KD patients. Evidence suggests that HAdV-C species can persist in pediatric adenoids and/or tonsils. We sought to determine (1) the frequency of HAdV detection by real-time polymerase chain reaction in KD patients, (2) the differences in HAdV semiquantitative ...

Identification of Inhibitors and Drug Targets for Human Adenovirus Infections

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Adenoviruses can cause infections in people of all ages at all seasons of the year. Adenovirus infections cause mild to severe illnesses. Children, immunocompromised patients, or those with existing respiratory or cardiac disease are at higher risk.

Metabolic Reprogramming of the Host Cell by Human Adenovirus Infection [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites that alter many cellular processes to create an environment optimal for viral replication. Reprogramming of cellular metabolism is an important, yet underappreciated feature of many viral infections, as this ensures that the energy and substrates required for viral replication are available in abundance ...
