Acute effect of infection by adipogenic human adenovirus Ad36 [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Virology, 2008
Human adenovirus Ad36 is causally and correlatively associated in animals and humans, respectively, with increased adiposity and altered metabolic profile. We inoculated rats with Ad36 or UV-inactivated Ad36, or mock-infected them. Four days later, Ad36-infected rats showed 23% greater epididymal fat pad weight and viral mRNA; the viral DNA could also ...

Infection of Mouse Liver by Human Adenovirus Type 5

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1978
CBA mice, inoculated intravenously with large doses of adenovirus type 5, showed raised levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase (SAAT; EC 2.6.I.I) and died within a few days from histologically demonstrable hepatic necrosis. After inoculation of I LD50, virus was rapidly taken up by the tissues where infectivity then declined greatly.

Adenovirus facilitated infection of human cells with ecotropic retrovirus [PDF]

open access: yesGene Therapy, 1998
Retroviral infection is restricted by the expression of a viral receptor on the surface of the target cell. Retrovirus-mediated gene transfer is therefore not possible in cells that fail to express sufficient levels of the appropriate receptor, representing one major obstacle to the use of recombinant retroviruses in experimental and clinical ...

Abortive Infection of Human Cell Cultures by a Canine Adenovirus

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1969
SummaryThe abortive infection of human amnion cells by infectious canine hepatitis virus (ICHV) was studied. Within 48 hr after inoculation, large quantities of complement fixing (CF) antigen were produced, although infectious virus yields were small.

Molecular characterization of human adenovirus infection in Thailand, 2009–2012 [PDF]

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2013
AbstractBackgroundHuman adenovirus (HAdV) can cause a wide spectrum of human diseases worldwide.MethodsUsing PCR and sequence analysis, we investigated HAdV infection prevalence in the Thai population for four years from January 2009 to December 2012.

UNDERESTIMATED INFECTION - ON THE QUESTION OF THE HUMAN ADENOVIRUS PATHOGENICITY FACTORS

open access: yesProblems of Virology, 2019
Human adenoviruses cause different organ infections of varying severity, from asymptomatic to severe cases with lethal outcome, that are registered everywhere. Detailed and focused study of factors predisposing to a severe course of infection is required.

Expression of a Human Coxsackie/Adenovirus Receptor Transgene Permits Adenovirus Infection of Primary Lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2000
Abstract Replication-defective adenoviruses are effective vehicles for gene transfer, both for the repair of defective genes and for studies of gene function in primary cells. Many cell types, including lymphocytes, are refractory to adenovirus infection because they lack the Coxsackie/adenovirus receptor (CAR) needed for virus ...

Parotid enlargement due to adenovirus infection in patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 1996
The authors report a case of adenovirus- induced enlargement of the parotid gland involving a patient infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Physical examination revealed good general condition, no fever and bilateral enlargement of the parotid region, which was of increased consistency and slightly tender to palpation.

Origin of Thymidine Kinase in Adenovirus-Infected Human Cell Lines [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1970
Human adenovirus type 5 enhances the thymidine kinase activity of KB cells but does not induce the enzyme in kinase-deficient HeLa (BU25) cells. Vaccinia induces thymidine kinase activity in both KB and HeLa (BU25) cells. Human adenovirus types 2, 4, 7, and 12 also fail to induce the enzyme in HeLa (BU25) cells.

Relationship of Adenovirus to Lymphocytes in Naturally Infected Human Tonsils and Adenoids [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1973
Purified lymphocytes from human tonsil and adenoid specimens were cultured with and without phytohemagglutinin. Adenovirus was isolated from lymphocytes of 8 of 90 specimens tested. With one exception, it was necessary to culture the lymphocytes before infectious virus could be detected. Phytohemagglutinin stimulation enhanced the recovery
