Torsional Instabilities in the Delamination of Soft Adhesives [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Soft adhesive contacts are ubiquitous in nature and are increasingly used in synthetic systems, such as flexible electronics and soft robots, due to their advantages over traditional joining techniques. While methods to study the failure of adhesives typically apply tensile loads to the adhesive joint, less is known about the performance of soft ...

Effect of adhesion geometry and rigidity on cellular force distributions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys Rev Lett 103, 048101 (2009), 2009
The behaviour and fate of tissue cells is controlled by the rigidity and geometry of their adhesive environment, possibly through forces localized to sites of adhesion. We introduce a mechanical model that predicts cellular force distributions for cells adhering to adhesive patterns with different geometries and rigidities.

Cytoplasmic delivery of antibodies through grafting a functional single complementarity‐determining region loop

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We achieved cytoplasmic delivery of non‐cell‐penetrating IgGs by grafting a single functional complementarity‐determining region 1 (CDR1) from the light chain variable region (VL) of the cell‐internalizable 3D8 antibody. The engineered IgG acquired cell‐penetrating ability while maintaining antigen affinity, highlighting CDR1 grafting as a promising ...

Surface finishing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A surface of an article adapted for relative motion with a fluid environment is finished by coating the surface with a fluid adhesive, covering the adhesive with a sheet of flexible film material under tension on the film material whereby the tensioned ...

On shear adhesion of adhesive fibrils

open access: yesExtreme Mechanics Letters, 2023
Natural fibrillar adhesives, widely recognized for their strong and reversible adhesion, have inspired the development of numerous synthetic adhesive systems applied in diverse fields. These biological and bioinspired adhesive fibrils exhibit a wide range of aspect ratios spanning four orders of magnitude.

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Hot melt adhesive attachment pad [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
A hot melt adhesive attachment pad for releasably securing distinct elements together is described which is particularly useful in the construction industry or a spatial vacuum environment.

Adhesion of Microcapsules

open access: yesLangmuir, 2006
The adhesion of microcapsules to an attractive contact potential is studied theoretically. The axisymmetric shape equations are solved numerically. Beyond a universal threshold strength of the potential, the contact radius increases like a square root of the strength.

Protonophore activity of short‐chain fatty acids induces their intracellular accumulation and acidification

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

KARAKTERISTIK PAPAN PARTIKEL DARI BAMBU DENGAN PEREKAT GETAH DAMAR

open access: yesJurnal Teknologi Industri Pertanian, 2019
The fiber content of bamboo is very high (59.8%), thus it is potential to be the raw material for particle board manufacture. In this study, resin of damar was used as adhesive to substitute the synthetic adhesive such as urea and phenol formaldehide ...
