Early life nutritional quality effects on adult memory retention in a parasitic wasp [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nutritional quality during early life can affect learning ability and memory retention of animals. Here we studied the effect of resource quality gained during larval development on the learning ability and memory retention of 2 sympatric strains of ...

Locust corpora cardiaca contain an inactive adipokinetic hormone [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1999
A neuropeptide from the migratory locust, Locusta migratoria, has been identified as a novel member of the family of adipokinetic hormones (AKHs). The peptide is probably synthesised in the brain because it is the first AKH found in the storage lobe, whilst the three ‘classic' Locusta AKHs are present in the glandular lobe of the corpora cardiaca.

Physiology of Ovarian Development in Crustaceans: Interactions Among Hormones, Nutrients, and Environmental Factors From Integrated Perspectives

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Reproductive maturation remains a central bottleneck in crustacean aquaculture, as ovarian development dictates broodstock quality, fecundity, and larval viability. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the physiological regulation of ovarian maturation in decapod crustaceans, emphasizing the interplay of hormones, nutrients, and environmental ...

Guidelines for anti‐obesity assays in Drosophila melanogaster model

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, Volume 1, Issue 4, Page 393-400, December 2024.
Drosophila melanogaster is an ideal model organism for investigations that requires chronic diseases, quick repeated assays, and decent sample amount such as anti‐obesity studies, with the advantages of low‐cost, easy to culture, fast life cycle, highly conserved sugar circulating system with mammals, and so on.

DmCatD, a cathepsin D-like peptidase of the hematophagous insect Dipetalogaster maxima (Hemiptera: Reduviidae): Purification, bioinformatic analyses and the significance of its interaction with lipophorin in the internalization by developing oocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
DmCatD, a cathepsin D-like peptidase of the hematophagous insect Dipetalogaster maxima, is synthesized by the fat body and the ovary and functions as yolk protein precursor. Functionally, DmCatD is involved in vitellin proteolysis.

A mitochondrial carrier gene, CG32103, is highly expressed in the corpora allata in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster (Diptera: Drosophilidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Here we describe a novel gene that is highly expressed in the corpora allata, an endocrine organ responsible for synthesizing juvenile hormones (JHs), in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster Meigen.

Primary role of adipokinetic hormone in the formation of low density lipophorin in locusts.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
It was demonstrated that the primary action of adipokinetic hormone (AKH) is to stimulate calcium ion uptake into the fat body cell, subsequently causing the formation of diacylglycerol from triacylglycerol. Furthermore, it was also shown that AKH is not
