Investigation of effect of hyperinsulinaemia on adipose tissue microvasculature. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Obesity in Qatar is amongst the highest globally and constitutes a serious health risk. Obese individuals are at greater risk of vascular disease compared to the lean, especially in the insulin resistant state.

Adipose tissue macrophages: their role in adipose tissue remodeling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Leukocyte Biology, 2010
Abstract This review summarizes the role of macrophages in adipose tissue remodeling, particularly focusing on the paracrine loop between adipocytes and macrophages. The adipose tissue secretes a large number of bioactive substances, adipocytokines, which may be involved in a variety of physiologic and pathologic processes.

Dynamic Loading Regulates Meniscus‐Like Matrix Production in Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Seeded PET Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic compression enhances mesenchymal stromal cell proliferation in nonwoven PET scaffolds under chondrogenic differentiation conditions and triggers mechanosensitive transcriptional programs associated with extracellular matrix remodeling. These findings highlight the potential of mechanically stimulated PET scaffolds as a promising platform for ...

Spatially Controlled Embedded Bioprinting of Prevascularized Spheroids‐Containing Biopatch Enables Functional Skin Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A spatially controlled embedded bioprinting strategy enables precise engineering of prevascularized multicellular spheroids within skin‐derived dECM bioinks. Optimized spheroid size, composition, and spacing promote vascular maturation, paracrine signaling, and tissue integration, resulting in enhanced angiogenesis, blood perfusion, and functional skin

Leptin, Adiponectin, and Other Adipokines in Regulation of Adipose Tissue Angiogenesis

open access: yes, 2013
Adipose tissue plays an important endocrine role through the production of secreted factors, termed adipokines. These include hormones such as leptin, adiponectin, resistin, omentin, apelin, and vaspin; classical cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α,

Making the Case for Organ‐on‐Chip Platforms in Long‐Acting Therapeutics Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
LATs release drug from a tissue‐resident depot over weeks to months, improving adherence, but their development is hampered by preclinical models that cannot reproduce the coupled tissue processes, sustained release, local microenvironment change, interstitial transport, immune and foreign‐body responses, and clearance that govern depot performance in ...
