Comparative Expression Profiles of mRNAs and microRNAs Among Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived From Breast, Face, and Abdominal Adipose Tissues

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2010
We determined the expression of both mRNAs and microRNAs (miRNAs) from human mesenchymal stem cells BM19, FM30, and AM3, which is derived from breast, face, and abdominal adipose tissues, respectively.

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.

Identifying and characterising a plant GH1 β‐glucosidase that exhibits hydrolytic activity on N‐linked glucopyranoside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We report the first β‐glucosidase with demonstrated hydrolytic activity on an N‐linked glycopyranoside. The enzyme, native to maize, was biochemically characterised for this novel reaction, and structural modelling of the enzyme–substrate complex revealed several clues to the underlying reduced catalytic rate relative to its native O‐glycopyranoside ...

Towards clinical translation of upscaled osteogenic grafts using human adipose tissue progenitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Tissue engineering is an emerging strategy in medical field that focuses on regeneration or replacement of lost or damaged tissue and organs. Most of the tissues in human body have no or limited self renewal and regeneration potential which decrease with

Longitudinal Assessment of Biomarkers in ALS: Discriminative Biomarkers for Disease Progression and Survival

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess the association and discriminative performance of serum biomarkers with clinical disease progression and survival in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods This retrospective study, conducted at Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX, used longitudinal serum samples collected between January 2018 and ...

Blood Vessels in White and Brown Adipose Tissues

open access: yes, 2013
The adipose tissue is composed of two major subtypes, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). While WAT mainly stores excess energy in, BAT plays a role in burning energy and generating heat in a process known as non-shivering ...

Differential regulation of gene co-expression modules in muscles and liver of preterm newborns

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
BackgroundNewborns undergo rapid metabolic and organ adaptations after birth, which are compromised in premature newborns, leading to adverse health outcomes.

Fat-specific protein 27 modulates nuclear factor of activated T cells 5 and the cellular response to stress[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2013
Fat-specific protein 27 (FSP27), a member of the cell death-inducing DNA fragmentation factor α-like effector (Cide) family, is highly expressed in adipose tissues and is a lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein that induces the accumulation of LDs. Using

Pain and Patient‐Reported Physical Function Did Not Differ Among Body Composition Profiles in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To explore whether higher body fat and lower lean mass are associated with greater pain and worse patient‐reported physical function in individuals with hip osteoarthritis (OA). A secondary aim was to examine whether pain and patient‐reported physical function differ according to four body composition profiles: high body fat, low lean mass ...

TULP3 Regulates Proliferation and Differentiation of 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes Through the Hedgehog Signaling Pathway

open access: yesBiology
The TULP family was first identified in progressively obese mice, and TULP3, as a member of its family, has been much studied in tumor cells, but studies on its role in adipocytes have not yet been reported.
