Integrative genomic and spatial transcriptomic analysis elucidates the oligodendrocyte‐mediated etiology of epileptic cortical thinning

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Focal epilepsy is characterized by progressive cortical thinning, particularly within limbic structures; however, whether this atrophy reflects acquired seizure‐induced damage or shared genetic predisposition remains unresolved. Methods We integrated genome‐wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics from the ILAE Consortium ...

The impact of mitotane therapy on serum-free proteins in patients with adrenocortical carcinoma

open access: yesEndocrine Connections
Introduction: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy of the adrenal cortex. Whilst surgery is the preferred treatment, adjunctive therapy with mitotane may be offered post-surgically to minimise the risk of recurrence or, in the absence of ...

Dietary and biomarker‐guided strategies as supportive measures in the fragile X syndrome

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract The fragile X syndrome (FXS) is an inherited neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects males, often resulting in an IQ below 55, while about two‐thirds of females also experience intellectual disability. Physical features may include an elongated face, prominent ears, finger joint laxity, and enlarged testes in males.

Gene expression profiling of human adrenocortical tumors using complementary deoxyribonucleic Acid microarrays identifies several candidate genes as markers of malignancy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
International audienceThe aim of this study was to identify predictor sets of genes whose over- or underexpression in human sporadic adrenocortical tumors would help to identify malignant vs.

Complement C3 mediates adolescent social isolation‐induced hippocampal synaptic deficits and sex‐specific emotional dysfunction

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Adolescent social isolation disrupts hippocampal function and exacerbates emotional symptoms, with sex‐specific patterns, as shown by human studies. In mice, social isolation decreased hippocampal synaptic density and calcium signaling, upregulated complement proteins, and activated complement‐mediated microglial synaptic phagocytosis.

Functional urinary bladder paraganglioma in a child presenting with obstructive uropathy: A rare case report

open access: yesUroPrecision, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Pediatric urinary bladder paraganglioma is an exceptionally rare neuroendocrine tumor arising from chromaffin cells within the detrusor muscle. Due to its rarity and variable presentation, early diagnosis can be challenging, often requiring a high index of clinical suspicion and multimodal evaluation.

Roles of connexins and pannexins in (neuro)endocrine physiology. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceTo ensure appropriate secretion in response to organismal demand, (neuro)endocrine tissues liberate massive quantities of hormone, which act to coordinate and synchronize biological signals in distant secretory and non-secretory ...

Identification of genetically predicted protein biomarkers and drug targets for prostate cancer via Mendelian randomization

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer, a leading cause of cancer in men globally, urgently requires improved diagnostic and treatment strategies. This study analyzed large genetic datasets and identified five key proteins (THBD, DST, IFI27L2, OSBPL10, PPP1R14A) that either increase or decrease cancer risk, while also exploring their roles in immune response and potential ...
