Update on Adrenarche-Still a Mystery. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism
Abstract Context Adrenarche marks the timepoint of human adrenal development when the cortex starts secreting androgens in increasing amounts, in healthy children at age 8–9 years, with premature adrenarche (PA) earlier. Because the molecular regulation and significance of adrenarche are unknown, this

Normal and Premature Adrenarche [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrine Reviews, 2021
AbstractAdrenarche is the maturational increase in adrenal androgen production that normally begins in early childhood. It results from changes in the secretory response to adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) that are best indexed by dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) rise.

Multiple androgen pathways contribute to the steroid signature of adrenarche [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology
CONTEXT Adrenarche is a normal developmental event in mid-childhood characterized by increasing adrenal androgen secretion. The role of the classic androgen pathway has been well described in adrenarche, but the role of newer active androgens and ...

Premature adrenarche

Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, 2001
Adrenarche is the puberty of the adrenal gland. The descriptive term "pubarche" indicates the appearance of pubic hair, which may be accompanied by axillary hair. This process is considered premature if it occurs before age 8 yr in girls and 9 yr in boys. The chief hormonal products of adrenarche are DHEA and DHEAS.
