Androgen synthesis in adrenarche
Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, 2008The enzymes and pathways of steroidogenesis are central to an understanding of adrenarche. The quantitative regulation of steroidogenesis occurs at the first step, the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone. Chronic quantitative regulation is principally at the level of transcription of the CYP11A1 gene encoding P450scc, which is the enzymatically ...

Pubertal endocrinology of the baboon: adrenarche
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1981The concentration of the adrenal steroids dehydroepiandrosterone (DHA) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHA-S) was measured by radioimmunoassay in plasma of 134 baboons (Papio cynocephalus) from 0 to 17 yr of age. Plasma androstenedione (delta 4-A) was also measured in 289 baboons encompassing the same age range.

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1978
In order to study the adrenarche, serum concentrations of PRL, FSH, LH, androstenedione, 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione (11βA), dehydroepiandrosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, and cortisol were quantified in 106 children from 2–12 years of age and in adults.

The Physiology and Biochemistry of Adrenarche
2010Adrenarche refers to the rise in adrenal 19- carbon steroid production, primarily dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and DHEA sulfate (DHEAS). Adrenarche, which occurs only in humans and a few higher primates, is independent of puberty and manifests clinically as the appearance of axillary and pubic hair, usually about age 8.

Clinical Presentation of Children with Premature Adrenarche
Clinical Pediatrics, 2011Objectives. To describe the phenotype of premature adrenarche (PA) patients, elucidate historical and physical correlates, and distinguish PA from late-onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia (LOCAH). Study design. Retrospective chart review of 122 patients (91 female and 31 male) with PA and 11 with LOCAH. Results.

The natural history of premature adrenarche.
Journal of pediatric endocrinology & metabolism : JPEM, 2000The growth and pubertal development of patients with premature adrenarche are reported to be normal, but the effects of this condition on pubertal growth are not well documented. In the present study the growth kinetics of a group of 38 female patients with isolated premature adrenarche followed in our institution for a period of 5.77 (SD=1.7) yr were ...
