β1-Adrenergic Receptor Gene Polymorphisms and the Acute Response to Atenolol in Healthy Young Japanese Subjects

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2011
Polymorphisms at codons 49 and 389 of the β1-adrenergic receptor gene have been shown to alter the receptor function in vitro, whereas it remains controversial whether they influence the response to β-blocker in vivo.

Alpha-adrenergic blockers in prostatism

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1977
Abstract Thirty patients awaiting prostatectomy with no history of cardiovascular disease were selected for a trial of alpha-adrenergic blocking agents. Twenty-seven patients completed the trial, 19 of them with unpleasant side effects. Eighteen of them found their symptoms were improved and 10 showed urodynamic improvement.

β-Adrenergic Blockers [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, 2011
KEY POINTS AND PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS: •  β-Blockers are appropriate treatment for patients with hypertension and those who have concomitant ischemic heart disease, heart failure, obstructive cardiomyopathy, or certain arrhythmias. •  β-Blockers can be used in combination with other antihypertensive drugs to achieve maximal blood pressure control ...

Modulation of Noradrenergic Neurotransmission in Isolated Rat Radial Artery

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2009
The present study was designed to characterize the neurogenic contraction of rat radial artery. Electrical field stimulation (EFS) evoked frequency-dependent contraction that was abolished by tetrodotoxin (neuronal Na+ channel blocker), guanethidine ...

Beta-blockers provide a differential survival benefit in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing contemporary post-percutaneous coronary intervention management

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Beta-adrenergic receptor blockers are used in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) to reduce the harmful effects of excessive adrenergic activation on the heart.

Cardiac adrenergic control and atrial fibrillation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and it causes substantial mortality. The autonomic nervous system, and particularly the adrenergic/cholinergic balance, has a profound influence on the occurrence of AF ...

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

The stimulation and inhibition of beta-2 adrenergic receptor on the inflammatory responses of ovary and immune system in the aged laying hens

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2021
Background Ovarian chronic inflammation has been known to incidence in the laying hen mainly via increasing laying frequency and microbial infection, especially during late stage of production period.
