A Novel Pak1 Activator Ameliorates ER Stress for HFpEF Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic metabolic stress is a major contributor to HFpEF progression. Under prolonged metabolic stress, Pak1 activity becomes impaired, contributing to disrupted ER proteostasis, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Mechanistically, Pak1 overexpression activates the ERK1/2–MNK1–eIF4E signaling axis, promotes translational ...

S-PrediXcan predicted gene expression in human placenta is associated with childhood-onset asthma risk

open access: yesScientific Reports
Investigation of in utero, tissue-specific molecular pathways contributing to prenatal programming of childhood-onset asthma is needed to develop effective, targeted prevention strategies.

Symbiont‐Induced HSP83 Establishes Two‐Tiered Control of Antifungal Immunity in an Invasive Beetle–Fungus Complex

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In an invasive beetle–fungus complex, the mutualist Leptographium procerum induces host HSP83 and modulates Toll‐dependent antifungal immunity. HSP83 mediates two‐tiered control by associating with selected fungal recognition receptors and restraining Dorsal‐driven antimicrobial peptide transcription.

Effects of short-term smoking on lung function and airway hyper-responsiveness in young patients with untreated intermittent adult-onset asthma: retrospective cross-sectional study at a primary–tertiary care hospital in Japan

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2019
ObjectiveIn daily clinical practice, smokers with asthma and with intermittent disease severity are frequently encountered. The effects of short-term smoking on lung function or disease presentation in younger patients with intermittent adult-onset ...

Age at asthma diagnosis and onset of symptoms among adults with allergic and non-allergic asthma

open access: yesEuropean Clinical Respiratory Journal, 2023
Background Childhood-onset allergic asthma is the best-known phenotype of asthma. Adult-onset asthma, also an important entity, is instead often shown to be more non-allergic.

Leveraging Microphysiological Systems to Facilitate Neutrophil‐Based Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microphysiological systems are emerging as powerful human‐relevant platforms for studying neutrophil biology in cancer. Current applications of spheroids, organoids, and organ‐on‐a‐chip models are reviewed, together with future opportunities in behaviorome profiling, multi‐omics integration, personalized medicine, immune crosstalk, and multi‐organ ...

Clinical significance of asthma clusters by longitudinal analysis in Korean asthma cohort. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: We have previously identified four distinct groups of asthma patients in KOREAN cohorts using cluster analysis: (A) smoking asthma, (B) severe obstructive asthma, (C) early-onset atopic asthma, and (D) late-onset mild asthma.

A General High‐Throughput Mucus Microrheology Platform for Quantitative and Scalable Mucus Phenotyping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput Differential Dynamic Microscopy measures frequency‐resolved mechanical fingerprints from 3 to 10 μL$\umu{\rm L}$ mucus samples using only a few minutes of operator attention per sample. This automated analysis enables scalable mucus phenotyping for translational research by distinguishing mechanical heterogeneity among donors, disease ...

Bio‐Memristor Based on Clinical Bile Samples: A Proof‐of‐Concept Pilot Study for Detection of Gallbladder Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, we present a bile‐based memristor hardware framework that enables direct, label‐free identification of cholelithiasis and gallbladder cancer at the device level. The Ag/bile/FTO memristor features stable resistive switching and disease‐specific electrical responses, providing a conceptual foundation for circuits and an integrated ERCP ...
