The Plasmid-Specified Aerobactin Iron Uptake System of Escherichia Coli
1985Escherichia coli is a major aerobic commensal bacterial species in the intestinal flora of a healthy individual. Some strains, however, are pathogenic for man, causing disease by a variety of mechanisms, and with a severity that ranges from the temporary, if acute, discomfort of “turista” to the chronic human tragedy of widespread infant mortality in ...

Photodissolution of lepidocrocite (gamma-FeOOH) in the presence of desferrioxamine B and aerobactin
Batch adsorption and dissolution experiments with lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH) and two siderophores, desferrioxamine B (DFOB) and aerobactin, were performed between pH 3 and 8 in the dark and under irradiation with UV-visible light.

Iron acquisition via aerobactin enhances the virulence of Escherichia coli. Genes that specify functions for aerobactin synthesis and iron(III)-aerobactin transport have been identified on several ColV plasmids. Previously, we cloned the locus for aerobactin synthesis from pColV-K311 and assigned to three loci termed aerA, aerB, and aerC the functions ...

Photoreactivity of Iron(III)−Aerobactin: Photoproduct Structure and Iron(III) Coordination
Inorganic Chemistry, 2006UV photolysis of the ferric aerobactin complex results in decarboxylation of the alpha-hydroxy carboxylic acid group of the central citrate moiety of aerobactin. The structure determination of the photooxidized ligand shows that decarboxylation occurs at the citrate moiety forming a 3-ketoglutarate moiety.

[Bioassay for the detection of hydroxamate-iron-chelators (Aerobactin)].
Journal of basic microbiology, 1986Different Salmonella strains were tested for aerobactin production in a hydroxamate-bioassay with the aerobactin indicator strain E. coli LG 1522. The majority of hospital strains of Salmonella typhimurium produce hydroxamate siderophore. On the other hand S. typhimurium strains belonging to phage type n. c. 1/72/n.

Aerobactin production of serotyped Escherichia coli from urinary tract infections
Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 1987Aerobactin production was examined by a bioassay in 467 Escherichia coli urinary strains from girls. All strains were of known O:K:H serotype. 139, 119 and 112 strains were isolates from pyelonephritis (Py), cystitis (Cy) and asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU), respectively, and 97 were from fecal samples of healthy girls (FN).

Influence of monosaccharides on aerobactin production byAerobacter aerogenes 62-1
Current Microbiology, 1987Supplementation of cultures ofAerobacter aerogenes 62-1, 43/4 h after initiation of growth withd-glucose (20 mM), resulted in a threefold increase in the production of aerobactin. Administration ofl-lysine under similar conditions led to a twofold incrasse in the yield of the siderophore.

Mechanism and regulation of synthesis of aerobactin in Escherichia coli K12 (pColV-K30)
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1992The aerobactin operon of the virulence plasmid pColV-K30 of Escherichia coli K12 consists of four genes for biosynthesis and one for transport of the siderophore. Regulation by iron occurs at the transcriptional level and is mediated by a ferrous iron binding protein designated Fur (ferric uptake regulation).
