The Effect of Airfoil Geometry Variation on the Efficiency of a Small Wind Turbine

open access: yesTechnologies
This study analyzes the impact of geometric variations induced by the manufacturing process on the aerodynamic efficiency of an airfoil used in the design of a 3 kW wind turbine blade.

Implementation of Three-Dimensional Inverse Design and Its Application to Improve the Compressor Performance

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The implementation of a three-dimensional viscous inverse design used for an axial compressor is introduced in this paper. The derivation process of the inverse design algorithm is also described in detail. Moreover, an improved blade update method and a

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Integrated Aerodynamic–Propulsion Optimization for Gas-Powered Fan VTOL Systems via CFD and Genetic Algorithms

open access: yesAerospace
Vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft must balance the conflicting demands of hover and cruise performance. To address the lack of integrated design methodologies in the existing literature, a unified design-optimization framework is presented ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

The aerodynamics and efficiency of wind pollination in grasses

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, 2010
Summary1. Under natural selection for sexual success, the reproductive organs of plants should evolve to become highly effective pollen receptors. Among wind‐pollinated plants, larger reproductive structures appear counter‐adapted to accumulate pollen by impaction on their windward surfaces, because airborne particles are less able to penetrate the ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Aerodynamic Analysis of Hovering Flapping Wing Using Multi-Plane Method and Quasi-Steady Blade Element Theory

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In the design of flapping-wing micro-size air vehicles capable of hovering, wings serve as the primary source of hovering power, making the analysis of aerodynamics and aerodynamic efficiency crucial.
