Ultrathin Hydrogel Membranes Inspired by Soap Films Enable Physiologically Relevant Breathing Lung Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soap‐film inspired strategy enables the fabrication of ultrathin yet robust GelMA‐PAAm membranes for breathing lung culture. The hydrogel membrane supports long‐term cyclic deformation under air‐liquid interface conditions, enabling physiologically relevant breathing motions of engineered lung tissue culture. ABSTRACT Breathing continuously stretches

SERS Facemask for Rapid and Portable Sensing Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Antigens for TB Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study introduced an Au─Ag embedded covalent organic framework (U@COF) ‐mediated facemask for sensing TB antigen ESAT‐6/CFP‐10 complex in clinical droplet samples toward TB screening. Practical analysis of clinical samples demonstrated the availability of our facemask, which is capable of identifying the TB subjects (N = 17) from healthy candidates (

Impact of stratospheric aerosol geoengineering implemented only in the winter hemispheres on the ITCZ and tropical monsoon regions

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Climate
Stratospheric aerosol geoengineering (SAG) has been proposed as a potential climate intervention strategy to counteract global warming. Previous studies have shown that year-round or summer/spring implementation of SAG in one hemisphere would shift the ...

Vascularized Liver‐on‐a‐Microsphere Reveals Alanine‐Glucose Metabolism‐Driven Regulation of Liver Function and Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A vascularized liver‐on‐a‐microsphere system is developed to recreate lobule‐like cellular organization and endothelial barrier function within compartmentalized hydrogel particles. The platform enhances hepatic performance and reveals alanine‐glucose cycle activation linked to improved detoxification capacity, offering a high‐throughput microscale ...

Volcanic Drivers of Stratospheric Sulfur in GFDL ESM4

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2023
Stratospheric injections of sulfur dioxide from major volcanic eruptions perturb the Earth's global radiative balance and dominate variability in stratospheric sulfur loading.

Inhalable ROS‐Responsive Nanospray Activates PPAR‐γ to Restore Macrophage Mitochondrial Homeostasis and Attenuate Radiation‐Induced Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nebulized nanoassembly alleviates radiation‐induced lung injury by reprogramming macrophages through coordinated ROS scavenging, NAD+ replenishment, and PPAR‐γ activation. Redox balance, mitochondrial homeostasis, and immune regulation are restored, revealing a microenvironment‐centered strategy for localized radioprotection.

Dependency of the impacts of geoengineering on the stratospheric sulfur injection strategy – Part 2: How changes in the hydrological cycle depend on the injection rate and model used [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
This is the second of two papers in which we study the dependency of the impacts of stratospheric sulfur injections on the model and injection strategy used.

Gas Sensing With Aerogels: A Critical Review on Structure‐Property Correlations and Performance Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With high specific surface area, and adjustable interface, aerogel provides a multi‐functional platform for gas sensing. This review systematically links structural parameters (specific surface area, pore size, heterojunctions) to sensing metrics (sensitivity, selectivity, stability), critically evaluates optimization strategies, and outlines future ...
