Cytosolic‐enhanced dark Epac‐based FRET sensors allow for intracellular cAMP detection in live cells via FLIM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 1075-1085, April 2025.
We describe a novel set of Epac‐based FRET‐FLIM biosensors with improved fully cytosolic distribution, achieved without compromising the state‐of‐the‐art performance of our original designs, for detecting cAMP dynamics in real time in live cells with high precision and reliability.

Fellow-Feeling in Childhood Memories of Second World War France: Sympathy, Empathy and the Emotions of History [PDF]

open access: yesClose Encounters in War Journal, 2021
This article examines fellow feeling in oral narratives of French Second World War childhoods to argue that more attention should be paid to the complex ways that emotions affect the story(ing) of the past. Fellow feeling is understood as a claim to feel

Accounting for Affect in Pain Level Recognition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this work, we address the importance of affect in automated pain assessment and the implications in real-world settings. To achieve this, we curate a new physiological dataset by merging the publicly available bioVid pain and emotion datasets. We then investigate pain level recognition on this dataset simulating participants' naturalistic affective ...

Word Affect Intensities

open access: yes, 2017
Words often convey affect -- emotions, feelings, and attitudes. Lexicons of word-affect association have applications in automatic emotion analysis and natural language generation.

On Affect: Function and Phenomenology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper explores the nature of emotions by considering what appear to be two differing, perhaps even conflicting, approaches to affectivity—an evolutionary functional account, on the one hand, and a phenomenological view, on the other.

Diphthamide synthesis is linked to the eEF2‐client chaperone machinery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 9, Page 1260-1268, May 2025.
The diphthamide modification of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is important for accurate protein synthesis. We addressed the potential coordination of de novo eEF2 synthesis with simultaneous or subsequent diphthamide modification. Our work reveals that the co‐chaperones Hgh1 and Cpr7, which are known to support folding of nascent ...

Does employment affect productivity? [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the trade-off between employment and labour productivity in a panel of OECD countries in 1970-2003. The endogeneity of employment is shown to matter crucially for assessing its effect on productivity.

The [2Fe‐2S] cluster of mitochondrial outer membrane protein mitoNEET has an O2‐regulated nitric oxide access tunnel

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 952-970, April 2025.
The mitochondrial outer membrane iron–sulphur ([Fe‐S]) protein mitoNEET is a target of the type‐2 diabetes drug pioglitazone. Its unknown molecular function is linked to respiratory complex activity and mitochondrial function. We discovered that O2 protects the mitoNEET [2Fe‐2S] cluster against NO oxidation and desensitization towards reduction by H2S.

Aff2Vec: Affect--Enriched Distributional Word Representations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Human communication includes information, opinions, and reactions. Reactions are often captured by the affective-messages in written as well as verbal communications. While there has been work in affect modeling and to some extent affective content generation, the area of affective word distributions in not well studied.

Do Social Security Statements Affect Knowledge and Behavior? [PDF]

open access: yes
Deciding when to retire and claim Social Security benefits is one of the most important financial decisions that workers face. Therefore, ensuring that they have easy access to clear and timely information about their benefit options is a key goal for ...
