Activated charcoal adsorbs aflatoxin B1.
Veterinary and human toxicology, 1981Activated charcoal was demonstrated to adsorb aflatoxin B1 in an efficient manner in vitro at a neutral pH. One mg aflatoxin was adsorbed by 100mg activated charcoal. The complex appeared to be quite stable. Destruction of the aflatoxin by alkaline conditions was confirmed, and a large measure of destruction was also noted at acid pH.
