General functions for human survival and mortality [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
General functions for human survival and mortality may support a possibility of general mechanisms in human ageing. We discovered that the survival and mortality curves could be described very simply and accurately by the Weibull survival function with age-dependent shape parameter.

Ageing makes us dyslexic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: The effects of typical ageing on spoken language are well known: word production is disproportionately affected while syntactic processing is relatively well preserved.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Prosopagnosia as a Type of Conversion Disorder

open access: yesCase Reports in Psychiatry, 2018
Background. Conversion disorder is a common and debilitating condition that remains poorly understood. We present a previously undescribed form of conversion disorder to highlight the complexity of the condition and consider the interplay of factors that

Six weeks of strength endurance training decreases circulating senescence-prone T-lymphocytes in cytomegalovirus seropositive but not seronegative older women

open access: yesImmunity & Ageing, 2019
Background Ageing is associated with a decline in immune function termed immunosenescence. This process is characterized amongst others by less naive T-cells and more senescent phenotypes, which have been implicated in the pathogenesis of many age ...

Age determinations of the open star clusters King 14 and NGC 146 [PDF]

open access: yesComptes rendus de l'Academie bulgare des Sciences 2005, 58, 12, 1363, 2008
We based on 2MASS J and Ks photometry for the open star clusters King 14 and NGC 146, and using color magnitude diagrams with isochrones fit we have found an age of log(age) = 7.8 (63 $\pm$8 Myr) for King 14 and log(age) = 7.5 (32 $\pm$8 Myr) for NGC 146. Our age determination is bigger than given in Lynga [5] (log(age) = 7.2 for King 14 and log(age) =

Ageing without detailed balance: local scale invariance applied to two exactly solvable models

open access: yes, 2006
I consider ageing behaviour in two exactly solvable reaction-diffusion systems. Ageing exponents and scaling functions are determined. I discuss in particular a case in which the equality of two critical exponents, known from systems with detailed ...

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...
