Sperm cryopreservation and in vitro fertilization techniques for the African turquoise killifish Nothobranchius furzeri

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Over the last decade, the African turquoise killifish, Nothobranchius furzeri, has emerged as an important model system for the study of vertebrate biology and ageing.

A Comparative Study on the Influence of DC/DC-Converter Induced High Frequency Current Ripple on Lithium-Ion Batteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Modern battery energy systems are key enablers of the conversion of our energy and mobility sector towards renewability. Most of the time, their batteries are connected to power electronics that induce high frequency current ripple on the batteries that ...

Age and Ageing: An Overview [PDF]

open access: yesOccupational Medicine, 2000
Europe is ageing, as exemplified by the UK population where, in the foreseeable future, more people will be over than under age 50: industry appears slow to recognise and appreciate all that older workers still have to offer: bundling them off into early retirement wastes precious talents. Memory difficulty is not an inevitable part of ageing.

DAA: A Delta Age AdaIN operation for age estimation via binary code transformer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Naked eye recognition of age is usually based on comparison with the age of others. However, this idea is ignored by computer tasks because it is difficult to obtain representative contrast images of each age. Inspired by the transfer learning, we designed the Delta Age AdaIN (DAA) operation to obtain the feature difference with each age, which obtains

The impact of E-cigarette vaping and vapour constituents on bone health

open access: yesJournal of Inflammation, 2021
Background In contrast to cigarettes, electronic cigarette use (E-cigarettes) has grown substantially over the last decade. This is due to their promotion as both a safer alternative to cigarettes and as an aide to stop smoking.

Personalized Age Progression with Bi-level Aging Dictionary Learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Age progression is defined as aesthetically re-rendering the aging face at any future age for an individual face. In this work, we aim to automatically render aging faces in a personalized way. Basically, for each age group, we learn an aging dictionary to reveal its aging characteristics (e.g., wrinkles), where the dictionary bases corresponding to ...

Ensemble age inversions for large spectroscopic surveys [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 629, A127 (2019), 2019
Galactic astrophysics is now in the process of building a multi-dimensional map of the Galaxy. For such a map, stellar ages are the essential ingredient. Ages are however measured only indirectly by comparing observational data with models. It is often difficult to provide a single age value for a given star, as several non-overlapping solutions are ...

Strain-Dependence of Surface Diffusion: Ag on Ag(111) and Pt(111) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Using density-functional theory with the local-density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation we compute the energy barriers for surface diffusion for Ag on Pt(111), Ag on one monolayer of Ag on Pt(111), and Ag on Ag(111). The diffusion barrier for Ag on Ag(111) is found to increase linearly with increasing lattice constant.

Extracellular vesicles, ageing, and therapeutic interventions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A more comprehensive understanding of the human ageing process is required to help mitigate the increasing burden of age-related morbidities in a rapidly growing global demographic of elderly individuals.

With mouse age comes wisdom : a review and suggestions of relevant mouse models for age-related conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Ageing is a complex multifactorial process that results in many changes in physiological changes processes that ultimately increase susceptibility to a wide range of diseases.
