By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Starburst ages in HII galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes
The age of the starbursts of a few H2 galaxies is derived from optical photometry and compared with previous results from radio continuum spectra. H2 galaxies are gas rich and characterized by the dominance of giant H2 regions, blue stellar colors, high ...

Neutron ages computed from experimental activation data [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Computer program reduces time manually required to compute neutron age and to provide definite plan of procedural choices. Program allows convenient comparison of several fitting and error analysis procedures.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Antiglycating activity of biomimetically synthesized magnetic copper ferrite nanoparticles: inhibition of methylglyoxal-derived AGEs

open access: yesFrontiers in Nanotechnology
The nonenzymatic glycation process initiates a harmful cycle that generates various intermediate compounds, leading to carbonyl and oxidative stress, and ultimately resulting in the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs).
