Beyond the plot: technology extrapolation domains for scaling out agronomic science

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2018
Ensuring an adequate food supply in systems that protect environmental quality and conserve natural resources requires productive and resource-efficient cropping systems on existing farmland. Meeting this challenge will be difficult without a robust spatial framework that facilitates rapid evaluation and scaling-out of currently available and emerging ...

Effect of Agronomical and Technological Treatments to Obtain Selenium-Fortified Table Olives [PDF]

open access: yesAgriculture, 2020
The biofortification of food crops for human consumption is a direct strategy for increasing dietary intake of selenium (Se). The aims of this study were the evaluation of different Se-fortification variables (concentration and number of foliar applications) for obtainment of fortified olives and the efficacy of two technological treatments (brining ...

Parallel Electrical Integration of Photo Bio Electrochemical Systems (photo‐BESs): Performance Gains and Load Dependency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.

Performance of Local Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Genotypes for Agronomic and Technological Characteristics

open access: yesYüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tarım Bilimleri Dergisi, 2022
The experiments were carried out in the field condition in 2019 and 2020, using 68 local bean genotypes and 5 cultivars (Akın, Akman 98, Göynük 98, Önceler 98, and Yunus 90) according to the Augmented design. Results showed that there were significant variations among dry bean cultivars and genotypes in terms of all the characteristics examined.

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates

A Rare Allele of ST5 From Wild Rice Enhances Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel salt‐tolerance gene ST5W, characterized by a unique 36‐bp promoter insertion, is found exclusively in a small subset of Oryza rufipogon and is absent in cultivated rice. Field trials confirm ST5W significantly enhances rice yield across diverse genetic backgrounds under saline conditions.
