Translational cancer research and its implementation through competitively selected Comprehensive Cancer Centers across Europe should be the primary policy focus for addressing the increasing cancer burden in Europe and counteract the present main strategy to convert cancer to a chronic disease.

rePPG: Relighting Photoplethysmography Signal to Video
Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) extracts physiological signals from facial videos by analyzing subtle skin color variations caused by blood flow. While this technology enables contactless health monitoring, it also raises privacy concerns because ...

Lsr‐mediated transport and processing of AI‐2 in Salmonella typhimurium [PDF]
SummaryThe LuxS‐dependent autoinducer AI‐2 is proposed to function in interspecies cell–cell communication in bacteria. In Salmonella typhimurium, AI‐2 is produced and released during exponential growth and is subsequently imported into the bacteria via the Lsr (luxS regulated) ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter.

Soliton Solutions on Noncommutative Orbifold $ T^2/Z_4
In this paper, we explicitly construct a series of projectors on integral noncommutative orbifold $T^2/Z_4$ by extended $GHS$ constrution. They include integration of two arbitary functions with $Z_4$ symmetry.

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

N-acyl homoserine lactone-degrading microbial enrichment cultures isolated from Penaeus vannamei shrimp gut and their probiotic properties in Brachionus plicatilis cultures [PDF]
Three bacterial enrichment cultures (ECs) were isolated from the digestive tract of Pacific white shrimp Penaeus vannamei, by growing the shrimp microbial communities in a mixture of N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) molecules.

Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Bifidobacteria exhibit LuxS-dependent autoinducer 2 activity and biofilm formation. [PDF]
Autoinducer-2 (AI-2) molecules are one class of signalling molecules involved in gene regulation dependent on population density in a mechanism commonly referred to as quorum sensing (QS).

Faster Coordinate Descent via Adaptive Importance Sampling [PDF]
Coordinate descent methods employ random partial updates of decision variables in order to solve huge-scale convex optimization problems. In this work, we introduce new adaptive rules for the random selection of their updates.

A polynomial algorithm for the k-cluster problem on interval graphs
This paper deals with the problem of finding, for a given graph and a given natural number k, a subgraph of k nodes with a maximum number of edges. This problem is known as the k-cluster problem and it is NP-hard on general graphs as well as on chordal ...
