Human-induced pluripotent stem cell–derived neural stem cell exosomes improve blood–brain barrier function after intracerebral hemorrhage by activating astrocytes via PI3K/AKT/MCP-1 axis

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Cerebral edema caused by blood–brain barrier injury after intracerebral hemorrhage is an important factor leading to poor prognosis. Human-induced pluripotent stem cell–derived neural stem cell exosomes (hiPSC–NSC–Exos) have shown potential for brain ...

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.

Characterization of the Roles of Vimentin in Regulating the Proliferation and Migration of HSCs during Hepatic Fibrogenesis

open access: yesCells, 2019
The activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) manifested as proliferation and migration is the pivotal event involved in liver fibrogenesis. The vimentin network, an intermediate filament (IF) system, is one of the critical cascades by which the cell ...

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

InterAKTions with FKBPs - mutational and pharmacological exploration

open access: yes, 2013
The FK506-binding protein 51 (FKBP51) is an Hsp90-associated co-chaperone which regulates steroid receptors and kinases. In pancreatic cancer cell lines, FKBP51 was shown to recruit the phosphatase PHLPP to facilitate dephosphorylation of the kinase Akt,

Carnosine restores the activation of signaling cascades and the ratio of apoptosis-regulating proteins in the penumbra zone after a permanent focal cerebral ischemia in rats

open access: yesАнналы клинической и экспериментальной неврологии, 2018
Introduction. Ischemic stroke is one of the most common and socially significant diseases, and its pathogenesis is associated with oxidative stress. The study of mechanisms of the neuroprotective action of the natural antioxidant carnosine is promising ...

Diabetes: Caught in the Akt? [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 2007
One complication of diabetes is a pronounced renal cellular hypertrophy, inevitably resulting in chronic fibrotic changes. Chuang and colleagues demonstrate that hypertrophy in vitro is dependent on an increased phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) activity and is correlated with increased levels of p21(WAF1/Cip1), a cell-cycle regulator that was ...

Spatiotemporal Drug Delivery via a Neonatal Spinal Cord ECM Hydrogel for Biomimetic Microenvironment Remodeling After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic hydrogel derived from neonatal spinal cord ECM (DNSCM) delivers LAMB2 protein and ISP peptide to remodel the inhibitory injury microenvironment. The system sustains drug release, upregulates pro‐regenerative LAMB2, downregulates inhibitory CSPG, and promotes axonal regeneration.
