Strategies to Design and Optimize Artificial Antigen‐Presenting Cells for T Cell Expansion in Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in engineering artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs) as alternatives to dendritic cells for T cell expansion. Key design principles inspired by the immunological synapse are discussed, with emphasis on strategies for polyclonal and antigen‐specific T cell expansion.

Tunable Thermoshrinkable Hydrogels for 4D Fabrication of Cell‐Seeded Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermoresponsive polymer with methacrylate groups for photo‐cross‐linking, based on polyethylene glycol, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate is synthetized to yield hydrogels that shrink upon temperature increase. The new polymer enables the fabrication of cell‐laden perfusable channels with diameters below 200 µm by combining ...

Transient Stiffness Patterning in Hydrogels Driven by Dissipative Mechanochemical Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Force‐induced disulfide bond rupture in a polymer‐based hydrogel, coupled with chemical or electrochemical reoxidation, leads to the transient modulation of the hydrogel's stiffness properties. High spatiotemporal control is achieved by this dissipative process, enabling the development of out‐of‐equilibrium stiffness patterns and transient, dose ...

The change of albumen quality during the laying cycle and its potential physiological and molecular basis of laying hens

open access: yesPoultry Science
: To elucidate the regulatory mechanisms that impact variability in albumen quality of laying hens from the peak of lay to the late production phase. A 60-wk study was conducted on a cohort of 20,000 Hy-Line Brown laying hens from 20 to 80 wk old. Before

The effect of Curcuma longa extract on the rate of aggregation and concentration of proteins in albumen

open access: yesJournal of Excipients and Food Chemicals, 2016
Protein aggregation may cause the loss of drug potency, alter pharmacokinetic profiles or induce unwanted immunogenicity. Albumen contains a variety of proteins and exhibits non-reversible aggregation in the presence of denaturing stimuli.

Biomimetic Nanomedicines Deliver Naringin for Enhanced Acute Liver Failure Therapy via Balanced Regulation of Hepatocyte Oxidative Stress and Kupffer Cell Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic nanomedicine (RBLN) constructed by loading natural antioxidants to clinically used layered double hydroxide nanoparticles is surface coated with fresh or senescent red blood cell membrane for balanced drug delivery to hepatocytes and KCs, thereby simultaneously alleviating liver oxidant stress and inflammation for effective drug‐induced ...
