A study of hierarchical and flat classification of proteins [PDF]
Automatic classification of proteins using machine learning is an important problem that has received significant attention in the literature. One feature of this problem is that expert-defined hierarchies of protein classes exist and can potentially be ...

Abstract Purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) of the family Chromatiaceae (Gammaproteobacteria) can perform chemo‐ and photo‐lithoautotrophy (through anoxygenic photosynthesis) in anoxic layers of freshwater stratified (including meromictic) lakes. This group has been extensively studied via physiological and ecological approaches, albeit their genomics has ...

Alcohol:NAD+ Oxidoreductase Is Present in Rat Liver Peroxisomes [PDF]
Alcohol:NAD+ oxidoreductase was found in the peroxisomes of animal liver for the first time as follows. The distribution of alcohol:NAD+ oxidoreductase activity with nonanol as substrate in the light mitochondrial fraction (peroxisome-enriched fraction) of rat liver was examined by centrifugation in a sucrose density gradient.

Exploring Unspecific Peroxygenase Selectivity with Diverse Hydrocarbon Substrates
Unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) are versatile enzymes that can be used for different reactions. However, selectivity of UPOs needs to be evaluated for the desired application. Thus, the selectivity of a panel of UPOs was evaluated in this work, and it revealed diverse reactivity profiles depending on the enzyme and substrate.

Biodegradation of lignocellulosics: microbial, chemical, and enzymatic aspects of the fungal attack of lignin [PDF]
Wood is the main renewable material on Earth and is largely used as building material and in paper-pulp manufacturing. This review describes the composition of lignocellulosic materials, the different processes by which fungi are able to alter wood ...
