Mapping the Bioenergetic Landscape of Oral Cancer Stem Cells: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSSC) remains highly lethal, with resistance largely driven by cancer stem cells (CSCs). Mitochondrial reprogramming supports CSC redox control, self‐renewal, and survival. This systematic review aimed to synthesize mitochondrial mechanisms sustaining CSCs in OSCC and evaluate their therapeutic ...

Characterization of aldehyde dehydrogenase isozymes in ovarian cancer tissues and sphere cultures

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2012
Background Aldehyde dehydrogenases belong to a superfamily of detoxifying enzymes that protect cells from carcinogenic aldehydes. Of the superfamily, ALDH1A1 has gained most attention because current studies have shown that its expression is associated ...

Translating gut microbiome research into therapies for type 1 diabetes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is characterised by the loss of functional pancreatic β‐cells, for which lifelong insulin therapy remains the standard of care. Given that the gut microbiome can influence host health and that shifts in gut microbial profiles have been observed in T1D, growing interest has emerged in the role of the gut microbiome in T1D,

Expression of CD47, Aldehyde Dehydrogenase, and SOX4 Stem Cells in Different Colonic Lesions [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Azhar International Medical Journal
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) patients have a higher likelihood of a favorable outcome when diagnosed early. Aime: This study aimed to evaluate the expression of CD47, Aldehyde Dehydrogenase (ALDH), SOX 4 stem cells in cancerous and precancerous ...

Tobacco nitrosamine NNK increases ALDH-positive cells via ROS-Wnt signaling pathway in A549 human lung cancer cells.

open access: yesJournal of Toxicological Sciences, 2017
Epidemiological studies suggest that lung cancer, which is a major cause of cancer death, has a critical association with cigarette smoking. Tobacco-specific nitrosamine 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) in cigarette smoke is a major ...

Disulfiram Attenuates Adenine‐Induced Renal Fibrosis by Modulating Inflammatory and Immunometabolic Responses

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 18, 30 September 2026.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by persistent inflammation that drives progressive renal injury and fibrosis. In this study, we demonstrate that disulfiram markedly attenuates kidney injury and fibrosis in adenine‐induced nephropathy by suppressing innate immune responses and reducing DNA damage and cellular senescence.

Expression of Acetaldehyde Dehydrogenase in Gefitinib-resistant Human Lung Adenocarcinoma HCC-827/GR Cells

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2018
Background and objective Tumor recurrence and drug resistance are the main causes of death in tumor patients. The family of acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) is closely related to the proliferation, migration, invasion and resistance of tumor cells, and ...

Targeting ALDH1A1 by disulfiram/copper complex inhibits non-small cell lung cancer recurrence driven by ALDH-positive cancer stem cells

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2016
The existence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has profound implications for cancer therapy. In this study, a disulfiram/copper (DSF/Cu) complex was evaluated in vitro and in vivo for its efficacy to inhibit CSCs, which ...

[Human aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH)].

open access: yesPostepy higieny i medycyny doswiadczalnej, 2001
The paper presents the molecular and kinetics aspects of aldehyde dehydrogenase polymorphism. The role in acetaldehyde metabolism and differences in substrate specificity of isoenzymes are discussed.

Relaxin‐2: Shaping the Proteomic Landscape of Skeletal Muscle Physiology, Glucose Trafficking, and Mitochondrial Function in Rat

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 18, 30 September 2026.
Cardioprotective hormone relaxin‐2 showed relevant effects on rat skeletal muscle by altering proteins linked to muscle function, regeneration, differentiation, mitochondrial function, glucose metabolism, and structural integrity and organization. Specifically, relaxin‐2 reduced the expression of 95 proteins, increased 32, and elicited unique proteins ...
