Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Reporter Assay for Endo/Lysosomal Escape of Toxin-Based Therapeutics

open access: yesToxins, 2014
Protein-based therapeutics with cytosolic targets are capable of exhibiting their therapeutic effect once they have escaped from the endosomes or lysosomes.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Doing Virtual Companionship with Alexa

open access: yesSocial Interaction
Technologists often claim that virtual assistants, e.g., smart speakers, can offer 'smart companionship for independent older people'. However, the concept of companionship manifested by such technologies is rarely explained further.

Application of four dyes in gene expression analyses by microarrays

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2005
Background DNA microarrays are widely used in gene expression analyses. To increase throughput and minimize costs without reducing gene expression data obtained, we investigated whether four mRNA samples can be analyzed simultaneously by applying four ...

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...
