Experimental scaling of compressional Alfvén eigenmode stability

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Both co-propagating and counter-propagating compressional Alfvén eigenmodes (CAE) are relatively ubiquitous in NSTX plasmas with toroidal field strengths of ⩽4.65 kG, but are largely absent in the NSTX-U plasmas with toroidal fields of 5.7–5.9 kG.

An analytical model of how the negative triangularity cuts off the access to the second stable region in tokamak plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We present an analytical model to evaluate the triangularity-shaping effects in accessing the second stable region for the ideal ballooning mode. Our results indicate that if the triangularity is sufficiently negative, the path from the first to the ...

Transport and losses of energetic particles in tokamaks in the presence of Alfvén activity using the new full orbit TAPaS code coupled to FAR3d

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Recent developments and tools integrated into the TAPaS code are presented, enabling realistic scenario simulations of particle dynamics within experimental tokamak magnetic equilibria.

Simulations of vertical displacement oscillatory modes and global Alfvén Eigenmodes in JET geometry

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Vertical Displacement Oscillatory Modes (VDOM), with frequency in the Alfvén range, are natural modes of oscillation of magnetically confined laboratory plasmas with elongated cross-section. These axisymmetric modes arise from the interaction between the
