Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 7, Page 990-1015, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Life after herbarium digitisation: Physical and digital collections, curation and use

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1029-1041, July 2026.
Societal Impact Statement Collections of dried plant specimens (herbaria) provide an invaluable resource for the study of many areas of scientific interest and conservation globally. Digitisation increases access to specimens and metadata, enabling efficient use across a broad spectrum of research.

Biodiversity science is improved when silent herbaria speak

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1378-1386, July 2026.
Herbaria in the Global South are critical yet underutilized resources for biodiversity science and often absent from international databases and research networks. We highlight the phenomenon of “silent herbaria” using Nigeria as a case study and quantify how these collections fill important gaps in global biodiversity knowledge.

When growth form fossilizes: the description of a new liverwort species of the family Metzgeriaceae from the Cretaceous Las Hoyas site, with insights into its architecture and life mode

open access: yesPalaeontology, Volume 69, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Abstract Examining the liverwort fossil collection from the Las Hoyas site, which was previously classified as Thallites sp., led to the discovery of a new species of Metzgeriales: Metzgeriites gynothallicus. This species is characterized by the presence of both asexual (propagule branches) and sexual (female branches bearing sporophytes) reproductive ...

The BosR Is Back!

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 125, Issue 2, Page 81-84, February 2026.
ABSTRACT BosR is a novel nucleic acid‐binding protein in the ferric uptake regulator (FUR) family that regulates gene expression in the Lyme disease spirochete Borrelia (Borreliella) burgdorferi. This issue of Molecular Microbiology contains a comprehensive transcriptomic study that keenly defines the regulatory swath of BosR in the vertebrate host of ...

Untersuchungen zum Ursprung der Substratspezifität von Enzymen der Amidohydrolase‐Superfamilie

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 4, 22 January 2026.
