Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Regulatory immune cells in transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Immune regulation is fundamental to any immune response to ensure that it is appropriate for the perceived threat to the host. Following cell and organ transplantation, it is essential to control the innate immune response triggered by the injured ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Allogeneic fibroblasts ameliorate intervertebral disc degeneration by reducing osteophytes in rabbits

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
IntroductionLow back pain (LBP) was commonly induced by intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), which is accompanied by the loss of disc height and osteophyte generation.

In vitro testing of immunosupressive effects of mesenchymal stromal cells on lymphocytes stimulated with alloantigens

open access: yesBiomedical Papers, 2015
Aims: Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) derived from adult bone marrow or adipose tissue offer the potential to open a new frontier in medicine. MSC are involved in modulating immune response and tissue repair in vitro and in vivo.

No drain, autologous transfusion drain or suction drain? A randomised prospective study in total hip replacement surgery of 168 patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We performed a prospective, randomised controlled trial to assess the differences in the use of a conventional suction drain, an Autologous Blood Transfusion (ABT) drain and no drain, in 168 patients.

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Translational Clinical Research: Use of Allogeneic Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) for Wound Regeneration in Two Small-Sized Dogs

open access: yesAnimals
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a recent regenerative biomaterial applied in clinical wound healing. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of allogeneic PRF therapy as a regenerative methodology for treating skin wounds in two small dogs.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...
