Normal human serum contains high levels of anti-Gal alpha 1-4GlcNAc antibodies
BACKGROUND: Natural xenoreactive antibodies (Abs) directed against the Bdi-epitope (Gal alpha 1-3Gal beta) on the cells of non-primate mammals take part in hyperacute rejection of xenotransplanted organs.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Altered Blood Levels of Anti-Gal Antibodies in Alzheimer’s Disease: A New Clue to Pathogenesis?
Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder whose pathological mechanisms, despite recent advances, are not fully understood. However, the deposition of beta amyloid -peptide and neuroinflammation, which is probably aggravated by dysbiotic ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...

Ingestion of mammalian meat and alpha-gal allergy: Clinical relevance in primary care
Background: An allergic reaction to mammalian meat has recently been reported in rural parts of South Africa and throughout other parts of the world. The cause of this allergic reaction is because of an oligosaccharide antigen known as galactose-alpha-1,

Biomarker discovery in galactosemia: Metabolomics with UPLC/HRMS in dried blood spots
Introduction:Galactosemia (GAL) is a genetic disorder that results in disturbances in galactose metabolism and can lead to life-threatening complications. However, the underlying pathophysiology of long-term complications in GAL remains poorly understood.
