Alpha-Oxidation of Omega-(2:4-Dichlorophenoxy)alkanenitriles and 3-Indolylacetonitrile within Plant Tissues

Nature, 1955
BIOLOGICAL and chemical investigations carried out here on the plant growth-regulating activity of ω-aryloxyalkanecarboxylic acids have established the importance of β-oxidation as a mechanism by which these acids are degraded in plants1. As a logical extension of this work, the corresponding nitriles were prepared and examined in the wheat cylinder ...

Phytanic acid α-oxidation in rat liver mitochondria

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1994
The alpha-oxidation of phytanic acid in rat liver is a mitochondrial function. The inhibition of phytanic acid oxidation activity by inhibitors of acyl-CoA ligases (Naproxen and Triacsin C) and that of carnitine acyltransferase I (2-(5-(4-chlorophenyl)pentyl)oxirane-2 carboxylic acid (POCA) and 2-bromopalmitate) and increase in phytanic acid oxidation ...

An improved method for chemical α-oxidation

Analytical Biochemistry, 1978
Abstract The technique of chemical α-oxidation has been extended so that the specific radioactivities of all carbons, except the five methyl terminal carbons, within a fatty acid such as palmitic acid can be determined. Improvements include the preparation of butyl esters rather than methyl esters of the products of chemical α-oxidation and the use ...

Phytanoyl-CoA Hydroxylase: A 2-Oxoglutarate-Dependent Dioxygenase Crucial for Fatty Acid Alpha-Oxidation in Humans

2015
Phytanoyl-CoA hydroxylase belongs to the family of 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases and plays a crucial role in the α-oxidation of fatty acids. The complete α-oxidation pathway involves five different enzymes localized in peroxisomes. Thus far, phytanoyl-CoA hydroxylase deficiency has remained the only genetically determined inborn error of ...

Alpha-oxidation of alpha-hydroxyfatty acids in rat brain. Possible involvement of an alpha-peroxylactone.

Lipids, 1989
Combined--but not individual--microsomal and supernatant fractions obtained from rat brains not only consume oxygen but also provoke emission from added chlorophyll. These results are consistent with literature data (Levis and Mead, J. Biol. Chem. 239, 77 [1964]) for trapping of radioactive 14CO2 following addition of alpha-hydroxy-[1-14C]stearic acid.

[Lipid degradation by way of beta and alpha oxidation in peroxisomes of mammals].

Verhandelingen - Koninklijke Academie voor Geneeskunde van Belgie, 1999
Recently, it has become clear that the peroxisomal beta-oxidation system in rat and man consists of multiple pathways. In rat and man straight chain fatty acids, dicarboxylic fatty acids and prostaglandins are oxidized via the L-specific pathway catalyzed by palmitoyl-CoA oxidase, multifunctional protein-1 and thiolase.
