Phytanic acid alpha oxidation in rat liver: Studies on alpha hydroxylation
1. The alpha-hydroxylation of [1-14C]phytanic acid was investigated in the postnuclear fraction of rat liver. 2. The reaction required ATP, Mg, Fe3+ and molecular oxygen. Fe3+ could be replaced by Fe2+. 3. The hydroxylase activity was optimal at pH 7.5 in phosphate buffer. 4.

Phytosphingosine degradation pathway includes fatty acid alpha-oxidation reactions in the endoplasmic reticulum [PDF]
Although normal fatty acids (FAs) are degraded via beta-oxidation, unusual FAs such as 2-hydroxy (2-OH) FAs and 3-methyl-branched FAs are degraded via alpha-oxidation.

Tissue Proteome of 2-Hydroxyacyl-CoA Lyase Deficient Mice Reveals Peroxisome Proliferation and Activation of ω-Oxidation [PDF]
Peroxisomal fatty acid α-oxidation is an essential pathway for the degradation of β-carbon methylated fatty acids such as phytanic acid. One enzyme in this pathway is 2-hydroxyacyl CoA lyase (HACL1), which is responsible for the cleavage of 2 ...

High Sensitivity 1H-NMR Spectroscopy of Homeopathic Remedies Made in Water [PDF]
Background: The efficacy of homeopathy is controversial. Homeopathic remedies are made via iterated shaking and dilution, in ethanol or in water, from a starting substance. Remedies of potency 12 C or higher are ultra-dilute (UD), i.e.

Circulating fatty acids and endocannabinoidome-related mediator profiles associated to human longevity [PDF]
To evaluate whether a peculiar plasma profile of fatty acids and endocannabinoidome (eCBome)-related mediators may be associated to longevity, we assessed them in octogenarians (Old; n=42) living in the east-central mountain area of Sardinia, a High ...
