Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The reaction of 1-tetralones with thallium trinitrate supported on clay: ring contraction vs a-oxidation

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2001
The reaction of a series of 1-tetralones with thallium trinitrate supported on Montmorillonite K-10 clay led to products of ring contraction (methyl indan-1-carboxylates) and/or alpha-oxidation (2-methoxy-1-tetralones), in variable yields.

Bioquímica e ação citotóxica de alfa-aminocetonas endógenas Biochemistry and cytotoxicity of alpha-aminoketones

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2005
alpha-Aminoketones are expected to undergo enolization and subsequent aerobic oxidation yielding oxyradicals and highly toxic a-oxoaldehydes. Our interest has been focused on two endogenous a-aminoketones: 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and aminoacetone (AA)

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

The effect of hop beta acids oxidation products on beer bitterness.

open access: yesKvasný průmysl, 2013
Instability and tendency to oxidation depending on conditions is a dominant property of hop beta acids . This property has an impact on both the hop storage and the beer brewing process . Approximately one half of the amount decomposes in the air at room

The effect of chitosan coating that enriched with α-tocopherol on lipid oxidation in farmed trout (oncorhynchus mykiss) during refrigerated storage [PDF]

open access: yesPizhūhish va Nuāvarī dar ̒Ulūm va Sanāyi̒-i Ghaz̠āyī, 2012
Omega-3 fatty acid is used in daily healthy diet and plays an important role in prevention of disease. Being a considerably main source of Omega-3 fatty acid groups, fish preservation against oil oxidation and any other similar causatives seems quite ...

Peroxisomal regulation of redox homeostasis and adipocyte metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Peroxisomes are ubiquitous cellular organelles required for specific pathways of fatty acid oxidation and lipid synthesis, and until recently their functions in adipocytes have not been well appreciated.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Sulfur isotope fractionation during oxidation of sulfur dioxide: gas-phase oxidation by OH radicals and aqueous oxidation by H2O2, O3 and iron catalysis [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2012
The oxidation of SO2 to sulfate is a key reaction in determining the role of sulfate in the environment through its effect on aerosol size distribution and composition.
