A short route to alpha-tocopherol.
Angewandte Chemie (International ed. in English), 2008A simple and practical route to alpha-tocopherol (I) is described. The key step is a remarkably diastereoselective domino aldol/oxa-Michael reaction, which is promoted by a proline deriv.

alpha-Tocopherol and serum lipoproteins.
Lipids, 1981Twenty-six patients with clinically confirmed mammary dysplasia and five age-matched controls were treated with alpha-tocopherol, 600 mg/day. Serum samples collected on the 21st day of the menstrual cycle were analyzed for cholesterol in lipoprotein fractions, isolated by a combination of precipitation and ultracentrifugation techniques.

Liposomes with alpha-tocopherol membrane
1996Liposomes, closed spherical structures formed by phospholipid bilayers, have been recognized as a controlled drug delivery system. We have studied the preparation and biocompatibility of liposomes based on soya phospholipids encapsulated with alpha-tocopherol. The binding efficiency of alpha-tocopherol was analysed by comparing two methods for liposome

Asymmetric synthesis of alpha-tocopherol.
Chemistry (Weinheim an der Bergstrasse, Germany), 2010Alpha-tocopherol was synthesized from a chiral intermediate alpha-hydroxy ester by means of two ring-closing methods to yield the chromanol in 94% diastereomeric excess.

Interaction of ascorbate and alpha-tocopherol.
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1987Vitamins C and E function as water-soluble and lipid-soluble chain-breaking antioxidants, respectively, and protect lipids, proteins, and membranes from oxidative damage. Vitamin C scavenges oxygen radicals in the aqueous phase, whereas vitamin E scavenges oxygen radicals within the membranes.
